{"id":10793,"date":"2021-12-08T09:04:29","date_gmt":"2021-12-08T09:04:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/?p=10793"},"modified":"2021-12-08T09:07:53","modified_gmt":"2021-12-08T09:07:53","slug":"seasonal-events-get-underway-in-the-music-department","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/2021\/12\/08\/seasonal-events-get-underway-in-the-music-department\/","title":{"rendered":"Seasonal events get underway in the Music Department"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After so long without them, it&#8217;s genuinely exciting to be back with musical events as the Christmas season starts to unfold.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-10794\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2021\/12\/IMG_20211123_181310.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"451\" height=\"338\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Cecilian Choir<\/strong>, comprising students, staff and alumni launched the Advent season with a sequence of plainsong and carols at St Michael&#8217;s Church, Hernhill, a meditative candlelit event interspersed with periods of silent reflection; there was a wonderfully atmospheric moment during one such moment, when the church clock struck on the hour at eight o&#8217;clock.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10795\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/files\/2021\/12\/IMG_20211206_195046.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"3264\" height=\"2448\" \/>This year&#8217;s Chamber Choir, <strong>Minerva Voices,<\/strong> returned to the Cathedral on Monday 6 December, for the first time since December 2019, to sing for the University Carol Service; always a special event in the university calendar, drawing its community together in a modified, COVID-safe manner that was nonetheless a very welcome opportunity to come together at this time of the year.
