Information for Delegates

Presentations

The presentation time allowed for all papers is 20 minutes, which will be strictly enforced by the panel chairs. You are strongly encouraged to include Power Point slides as well as short clips where applicable. All panel sessions will conclude with a short discussion session.

AV Equipment

All rooms are equipped with a desktop PC (including MS Office and VLC player), data projector, speakers and DVD player. Please note that DVD players are not region free, therefore should only be able to play Region 2 or 0 encoded DVDs.

You will also be able to connect your own laptop to the system through a laptop point. However, we advise you not to do this as it causes delays and might create other technical problems. We suggest you to bring your presentations saved on a memory stick or burnt on a DVD (or both for backup).

You may also access the Internet through these PCs for your email or streaming videos, but please be advised that these could create problems too and therefore should only be a second option. If you insist on connecting your laptop to the system, please note that MAC users need to bring their own adaptors.

Location & Travel

The conference will be held at the School of Arts Jarman Building, which is located within the University of Kent campus in Canterbury. Travel information, including detailed directions, on the Canterbury campus can be found here:

http://www.kent.ac.uk/maps/canterbury/maps.html

Regular bus services run between town centre and the campus – look for green coloured UniBus services, which will take you to the main bus stop in the campus near Keynes College. Bus number 4X will also take you to this stop.

Canterbury is well connected to the surrounding area with its two rail stations and the main bus station in town centre. Bus services run between London Victoria Coach Station and Canterbury. Various London rail terminals have connections to Canterbury. The easiest way to get to Canterbury from London is taking the Southeastern High Speed service from London St Pancras, which takes about 55 minutes to arrive at Canterbury West. Those connecting from surrounding areas may catch this train at Ashford International (including Eurostar travellers). Please see below for web links, timetables and detailed routes.

Accommodation

You should be able to find accommodation in town centre. Canterbury is a small city; most hotels, hostels or B&Bs should be close to town as well as the main bus stops. Kipps Hostel and YHA Canterbury are the only budget options in town.

Please see http://www.canterbury.co.uk/accommodation/ for detailed information.

Refreshments & Dinner

We will provide refreshments, snacks, coffee and tea during panel breaks as well as buffet lunch on the conference date. There are other vending machines located in the Jarman building that you may use.

Registration

Registration fee for the conference is 15 pounds. This includes access to all panels, all refreshments and lunch.
