{"id":524,"date":"2017-10-11T14:08:11","date_gmt":"2017-10-11T14:08:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/memsnews\/?p=524"},"modified":"2017-10-11T14:19:55","modified_gmt":"2017-10-11T14:19:55","slug":"new-cultures-of-performance-research-group","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/memsnews\/2017\/10\/11\/new-cultures-of-performance-research-group\/","title":{"rendered":"New &#8216;Cultures of Performance&#8217; Research Group"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Cultures of Performance in Medieval and Early Modern Europe<\/em> is\u00a0a new research cluster founded by\u00a0University of Kent colleagues,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/english\/staff\/wright.html\">Dr Clare Wright<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/english\/staff\/dustagheer.html\">Dr Sarah Dustagheer <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/english\/staff\/loughnane.html\">Dr Rory Loughnane<\/a>. The group comprises staff and students from the University, and will investigate a range of performance events in Europe, <em>c<\/em>. 500 to <em>c<\/em>. 1700.<\/p>\n<p>From plays and pageants to poetry and processions, music, liturgy and dance, performance here is broadly conceived and studied from a variety of methodological and historical perspectives, including its place in modern performance practice.<\/p>\n<p>The research cluster\u00a0launches on <strong>Thursday 12th October<\/strong> with the first of its interactive performance workshops, followed by drinks and discussion. The event is free and open to all. Starts at <strong>5.15pm, Lecture theater 2, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/maps\/canterbury\/canterbury-campus\/building\/darwin-college\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc\">Darwin College<\/span><\/a>, University of Kent<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Cultures of Performance in Medieval and Early Modern Europe<\/em> will hold regular performance workshops throughout the year where\u00a0it will explore some of the texts, ideas and questions\u00a0members encounter in\u00a0their research.
