{"id":497,"date":"2017-03-29T11:51:53","date_gmt":"2017-03-29T11:51:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/memsnews\/?p=497"},"modified":"2017-03-29T12:18:10","modified_gmt":"2017-03-29T12:18:10","slug":"university-and-cathedral-renew-collaborative-working-agreement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/memsnews\/2017\/03\/29\/university-and-cathedral-renew-collaborative-working-agreement\/","title":{"rendered":"University and Cathedral renew collaborative working agreement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 17 March, representatives from The University of Kent and Canterbury Cathedral renewed the Memorandum of Understanding they first signed in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The signing ceremony took place in the Cathedral Archives &amp; Library with Dr Simon Kirchin, Kent\u2019s Dean for the Humanities, and Canon Librarian The Revd Christopher Irvine ratifying the new three-year agreement.<\/p>\n<p>The signing was attended by: Dr Juliette Pattinson, Head of the University\u2019s School of History; Cressida Williams, Head of Archives &amp; Library, Canterbury Cathedral; Jeremy Carrette, Professor of Philosophy, Religion and Culture and Head of the School of European Culture and Languages; Catherine Richardson, Professor of Early Modern Studies in the School of English; and John Sotillo, Kent\u2019s Director of Information Services, among others.<\/p>\n<p>The first MOU resulted in a number of very successful projects. These included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a Festival of Ideas (\u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/news\/culture\/9658\/questions-of-space-at-canterbury-cathedral\">Questions of Space\u2019<\/a>) which presented a series of public interactive talks, walks, sights and sounds created by Humanities staff at Kent and hosted by the Cathedral;<br \/>\nwork opportunities and placements at the Cathedral for students;<br \/>\na number of research and public events around the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/ww1\/\">Gateways to the First World War <\/a>project;<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/english\/shakespeare400\/\">Shakespeare 400<\/a>, with the University and the Cathedral, alongside other partners, offering a local view of the Bard\u2019s work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The MOU also resulted in a strong and evolving relationship between the Cathedral and Kent\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/mems\/\">Centre for Medieval and Early Modern Studies<\/a>, as well as a close partnership between the Cathedral Archives &amp; Library and the University\u2019s Special Collections &amp; Archives.<\/p>\n<p>Anticipated notable events and projects for the next three years include a second Festival of Ideas and the delivery of the Heritage Lottery-funded project \u2018The Canterbury Journey\u2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On 17 March, representatives from The University of Kent and Canterbury Cathedral renewed the Memorandum of Understanding they first signed in 2014.
