If not, meet Moriaen, the protagonist from a Dutch chivalric romance by the same name, and researched by Georgie Anderson, a PhD candidate from the University of Kent. The story of Moriaen is just one of many stories giving us insights into the role and representation of people of colour in the medieval period. Georgie is a visiting scholar at the Bodleian Libraries and this video is part of our series, We Are Our History. Georgie Anderson’s research is funded by CHASE AHRC and The Stuart Hall Foundation. We would like to thank the KB National Library of the Netherlands for the image of their manuscript of Moriaen.
