{"id":1570,"date":"2026-05-28T09:43:50","date_gmt":"2026-05-28T09:43:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/memsnews\/?p=1570"},"modified":"2026-05-28T09:43:50","modified_gmt":"2026-05-28T09:43:50","slug":"mems-ma-funding-available","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/memsnews\/2026\/05\/28\/mems-ma-funding-available\/","title":{"rendered":"MEMS MA+ Funding Available"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"page-header-panel p-relative\">\n<div class=\"content p-relative\">\n<div class=\"container p-relative\">\n<div class=\"title aos-init aos-animate\" data-aos=\"fade-in\">\n<p>MEMS has a number of special Master&#8217;s funding opportunities available including these featured below:<\/p>\n<h1>Knowledge Orders Master&#8217;s Plus Doctoral Scholarships<\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"image-gradient-overlay\"><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"text-panel normal none aos-init aos-animate\" data-aos=\"fade-up\">\n<div class=\"outer-wrapper p-relative\">\n<div class=\"container\">\n<p>Thanks to the funding of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.komldsp.org.uk\/ma-scholarships\/\">Leverhulme Trust,\u00a0<em>Knowledge Orders<\/em><\/a>\u00a0can offer during the lifetime of the programme up to three scholarships covering the costs of both an MA and a doctoral position within KOM. In 2026\/27 the programme is able to fund one MA candidate who will progress to a doctorate connected with the programme.<\/p>\n<p>The intention of these scholarships is to promote inclusion and so, following the Leverhulme\u2019s rules, students wishing to pursue the Master\u2019s plus doctoral scholarship route need to fulfil certain criteria.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The candidate must be:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Be a UK domiciled student<\/li>\n<li>Not already have a master\u2019s degree from the host institution<\/li>\n<li>Be from a low-income household background evidenced by, for example, being in receipt of a full maintenance loan or Special Support loan during their undergraduate studies.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>and\/or<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>Be one of the following categories of ethnicity:\n<ul>\n<li>Black African<\/li>\n<li>Black Caribbean<\/li>\n<li>Black Other<\/li>\n<li>Mixed \u2013 White and Black Caribbean<\/li>\n<li>Mixed \u2013 White and Black African<\/li>\n<li>Other mixed background (including Black African, Black Caribbean and Black Other)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>What the Scholarship offers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Leverhulme lists the provisions of this scholarship as follows:<\/p>\n<p>Each scholarship provides up to \u00a3130,000 for up to 54 months of full-time study. This covers:<\/p>\n<p>Research master\u2019s degree (12 months of full-time study):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>maintenance (at UKRI base level)<\/li>\n<li>tuition fees (at the university\u2019s usual UK fee rate, up to a maximum of \u00a312,000)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Doctoral Degree (up to 42 months of full-time study):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>maintenance (at UKRI base levels)<\/li>\n<li>tuition fees (at UKRI base levels)<\/li>\n<li>\u00a310,000 to be used to support the individual student\u2019s research and training needs, these funds can be used at any stage of the Master\u2019s plus programme.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How to apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To apply for one of these Master\u2019s plus doctoral scholarships, begin by applying to either the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcl.ac.uk\/study\/postgraduate-taught\/courses\/medieval-studies-ma\">MA in Medieval Studies<\/a>\u00a0at King\u2019s College London or the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/postgraduate\/151\/medieval-and-early-modern-studies\">MEMS MA<\/a>\u00a0at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/medieval-early-modern-studies\">Centre for Medieval and Early Modern Studies<\/a>\u00a0at the University of Kent, stating your interest in this scholarship and how you meet its criteria.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, you will need to complete an application for the funding itself via the relevant institution. Promoted to a Senior Lectureship in 2006, and with an outstanding academic career unfolding, she was tragically killed in a road accident a few months later.<\/p>\n<p>Sasha was a brilliant teacher, loved and admired by her students, a distinguished scholar, and a vibrant and innovative presence in the department. Her many publications included\u00a0<i>Women Reading Shakespeare<\/i>\u00a0&#8211; an anthology of criticism edited with Ann Thompson, a study of Romeo and Juliet in the\u00a0<i>Writers and their Work<\/i>\u00a0series, and a distinguished contribution to Shakespeare scholarship,\u00a0<i>Reading Shakespeare\u2019s Poems in Early Modern England<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>The Sasha Roberts Scholarship was set up by Sasha\u2019s family, her parents Penny and Nigel, her husband Martin, and her son Lio who survived the crash that killed Sasha.
