{"id":1438,"date":"2025-04-29T08:13:52","date_gmt":"2025-04-29T08:13:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/memsnews\/?p=1438"},"modified":"2025-04-29T08:13:52","modified_gmt":"2025-04-29T08:13:52","slug":"fully-funded-ma-phd-available","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/memsnews\/2025\/04\/29\/fully-funded-ma-phd-available\/","title":{"rendered":"Fully funded MA + PhD available"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">Leverhulme funding with our Knowledge Orders before Modernity programme.<\/p>\n<div data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">\n<p>Thanks to the funding of the Leverhulme Trust,\u00a0<em>Knowledge Orders before Modernity<\/em> is offering a scholarship covering the costs of both an MA and a doctoral position within KOM.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.komldsp.org.uk\/about-us\/\">Knowledge Orders before Modernity<\/a> funds MAs and PhDs to train a new generation of medievalists and early modernists in skills to make our handwritten heritage accessible in the emerging digital age.<\/p>\n<div data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">\n<p>The intention of these MA + PhD scholarships is to promote inclusion and so, following the Leverhulme\u2019s rules, students wishing to pursue the Master\u2019s plus doctoral scholarship route need to fulfil certain criteria.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The candidate must be:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Be a UK domiciled student<\/li>\n<li>Not already have a master\u2019s degree from the host institution<\/li>\n<li>Be from a low-income household background evidenced by, for example, being in receipt of a full maintenance loan or Special Support loan during their undergraduate studies.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>and\/or<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>Be one of the following categories of ethnicity:\n<ul>\n<li>Black African<\/li>\n<li>Black Caribbean<\/li>\n<li>Black Other<\/li>\n<li>Mixed \u2013 White and Black Caribbean<\/li>\n<li>Mixed \u2013 White and Black African<\/li>\n<li>Other mixed background (including Black African, Black Caribbean and Black Other)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>What the Scholarship offers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Leverhulme lists the provisions of this scholarship as follows:<\/p>\n<p>Each scholarship provides up to \u00a3130,000 for up to 54 months of full-time study. This covers:<\/p>\n<p>Research master\u2019s degree (12 months of full-time study):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>maintenance (at UKRI base level)<\/li>\n<li>tuition fees (at the university\u2019s usual UK fee rate, up to a maximum of \u00a312,000)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Doctoral Degree (up to 42 months of full-time study):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>maintenance (at UKRI base levels)<\/li>\n<li>tuition fees (at UKRI base levels)<\/li>\n<li>\u00a310,000 to be used to support the individual student\u2019s research and training needs, these funds can be used at any stage of the Master\u2019s plus programme.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How to apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To apply for one of these Master\u2019s plus doctoral scholarships, begin by applying to either\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/postgraduate\/151\/medieval-and-early-modern-studies\">MEMS MA<\/a>\u00a0at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/medieval-early-modern-studies\">Centre for Medieval and Early Modern Studies<\/a> at the University of Kent or the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcl.ac.uk\/study\/postgraduate-taught\/courses\/medieval-studies-ma\">MA in Medieval Studies<\/a>\u00a0at King\u2019s College London, stating your interest in this scholarship and how you meet its criteria.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, you will need to complete an application for the funding itself via the relevant institution. Apply via Kent\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/scholarships\/search\/FNADKOMMP01\">here<\/a>. Apply via King\u2019s College London\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcl.ac.uk\/study-legacy\/funding\/leverhulme-doctoral-scholarships-programme-knowledge-orders-before-modernity-masters-plus-2025-26\">here<\/a>.
