MEMS is delighted to be hosting a very special one-day conference on 14th September 2024 on the theme of Medieval Books across Borders. It is special because this is a CHASE-funded workshop dovetailing with the AGM and Annual Lecture of the Society for the Medieval Languages and Literature (SSMLL), the publishers of Medium AEvum.
For the start of the day, the conference will be the guests of Canterbury Cathedral Archives, where there will be a small display and a stimulating lecture by Prof. Nicholas Vincent (University of East Anglia) on ‘Magna Carta Goes Global: The Strange History of a National Treasure’. In the afternoon, the conference will be on the University of Kent’s campus and will include an exciting set of presentations by early career scholars reflecting something of the vitality and range of medieval studies being researched at present. Following the brief Society AGM at 4:30pm, the day will close with the Medium AEvum Annual Lecture, this year given by Dr Sarah Bowden (King’s College, London) who will speak to the title ‘Shifting Landscapes: St Oswald of Northumbria in England and Germany’.
To register for this free event, please email bookscapes@kent.ac.uk before Wednesday, 11th September.
UPDATE: the full programme is now available.
