We will be showing\u00a0<em>A Tale of Two Cities\u00a0<\/em>(1958, Ralph Thomas, 118 mins) on Wednesday the 20th of February, 5-7pm, in Jarman 6.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/melodramaresearchgroup\/files\/2018\/11\/libel-tale-of-two-cities-thAA81CVLE-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2102\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/melodramaresearchgroup\/files\/2018\/11\/libel-tale-of-two-cities-thAA81CVLE-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"187\" height=\"214\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">This British adaptation of Charles Dickens&#8217; 1859 novel\u00a0sees Bogarde playing the initially dissolute, but ultimately self-sacrificing, lawyer Sydney Carton. We have previously screened Bogarde films which adapted modern texts <em>(Libel, The Singer Not the Song <\/em>and <em>Cast a Dark Shadow<\/em>) and one from the late 19th century (<em>Esther Waters<\/em>).
