As well as a broad\u00a0consideration of melodrama, and the\u00a0two film\u00a0versions&#8217;\u00a0\u00a0similarities and differences,\u00a0we hope to discuss Guy Barefoot&#8217;s &#8220;East Lynne to Gas Light: Hollywood, Melodrama and Twentieth-Century Notions of the Victorian&#8221; in\u00a0Jacky Bratton, Jim Cook and Christine Gledhill (eds), <i>Melodrama: Stage, Picture, Screen<\/i>\u00a0(BFI, 1994): 94-105.
