Ridiculed as his \u2018folly\u2019 in the trade press, Disney would go on to make one of the most successful films of 1938. Technical innovations, such as the multi-plane camera, would be only one hurdle for the film. Disney\u2019s biggest concern became how to show realism, gags and emotional investment in animation.\u00a0 The story is of an adolescent girl faced with an envious stepmother who seeks her death.
