We will be discussing the film <em>I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House <\/em>(2016, Osgood Perkins, 87 minutes).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/melodramaresearchgroup\/files\/2016\/11\/pretty-thing.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1647\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/melodramaresearchgroup\/files\/2016\/11\/pretty-thing.png\" alt=\"pretty-thing\" width=\"299\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Released very recently (on Netflix the 28th of October) the film&#8217;s title appears to invoke Shirley Jackson&#8217;s classic gothic novel <em>We Have Always Lived in the Castle <\/em>(1962).\u00a0Like Jackson&#8217;s work, the\u00a0plot revolves around a\u00a0large house and its unusual inhabitants.\u00a0\u00a0Ruth Wilson appears as Lily, a live-in nurse who is contracted to care for the elderly Iris Blum (Paula Prentiss) but who comes to suspect that her employer&#8217;s house may be haunted.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>All are very welcome to join us for the next Melodrama Meeting on Monday, 14th of November, 5-7pm, in Jarman 7.
