style=\"color: #ffffff\">Following the great entries we had last year, we are running the competition again.\u00a0 Script-writing is an exciting way to use your<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ffffff\">knowledge about Rome and its people to develop your own stories.\u00a0 It can also help you with revision and when we piloted the activity \u2013 we found students engaged with it and produced original, carefully researched scripts, revealing very much their own take on life in the Roman Empire\u00a0 \u00a0It will be our intention to work with the winner to produce a film based on the script.\u00a0 We are already working with last year\u2019s winner and hope to have an update on this in 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">1<sup>st<\/sup> Prize \u00a3100<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">Advice for entrants on Script-Writing First off, we recommend that all entrants view the films <a style=\"color: #ffffff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=juWYhMoDTN0\"><u>\u2018A Glimpse of Teenage Life in Ancient Rome\u2019<\/u><\/a> and \u2018<a style=\"color: #ffffff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RQMgLxVxsrw\"><u>Four Sisters in Ancient Rome<\/u><\/a>\u2019 \u2013 you may wish to put the subtitles on to see how the script intersects with the animated content.\u00a0 Then, you need to decide: which part of the Roman Empire will the story be set in \u2013 you will need to think about how it would feel to migrate from one part of the Empire to another.\u00a0 Take a look at our film about <a style=\"color: #ffffff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=LGpn04KVjwg\"><u>migration in history<\/u><\/a>.\u00a0 The blog <a style=\"color: #ffffff\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/lucius-romans\/a-glimpse-of-teenage-life-in-ancient-rome\/\"><u>Lucius\u2019 Romans<\/u><\/a> may also be useful that will show you some of the research behind the two films made for TED.Ed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">Your script will be judged with reference to three areas: Accuracy, Originality and Humour.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">Rules\u00a0 All rules must be complied with or the entry will be disqualified.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Length \u2013 no more than 1000 words.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Subject matter \u2013 a story about a person who left their home in one part of the Roman Empire and settled in a city somewhere else in the Roman Empire.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">3)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The text of the script needs to be double-spaced and in a font larger than Arial 11.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">4)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The text of the script must be written in English.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">5)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Entrants need to be attending a school\/college in the United Kingdom \u2013 Years 7 to 13.\u00a0 Students in Higher Education (e.g. Universities) may not enter the competition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">6)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Submission must be made by email to classicscripts@kent.ac.uk on<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ffffff\">a completed entry form that has been signed by a member of staff at your school or college.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">7)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 All parts of the entry form must be completed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">8)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 All<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ffffff\">scripts must be received by 9pm on 31 March 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">Judging Process University of Kent staff from the Department of Classical and Archaeological Studies will draw up a shortlist of scripts to submit to our panel of judges.\u00a0 Shortlisted scripts will be judged in relation to their accuracy, originality and humour.\u00a0 The judging will be completed by the time of the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.classicalassociation.org\/events.html\"><u><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">Classical Association Conference in Canterbury<\/span><\/u><\/a><span style=\"color: #ffffff\"> in April 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">The Winning Entry As well as the prize money, we will also approach (with permission of the entrant) animators and others with a view to having the script turned into a film for release on YouTube as free-on-line content.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a
