Medway Wellbeing Festival 2018<\/h2>\n

The LGBT+ Staff Network had a stand at the Medway Wellbeing Festival on\u00a0Tuesday 20\u00a0March 2018.\u00a0\u00a0Other highlights included\u00a0a Mental Health Stigma workshop, Drill Hall library wellbeing, GK Union, mindful colouring, Medway Activities, Medway Park leisure centre, free healthy snacks, and the University of Kent Krishna Consciousness Society.<\/p>\n

The University of Kent is proud of its diverse student, staff and alumni community.\u00a0 \u2018Out and Proud\u2019 aims to showcase some of our LGBT+ champions, role models, and allies to highlight the amazing people on our campuses who share their stories to inspire others.\u00a0 This exhibition also features books from the Templeman Library on and by LGBT+ role models throughout the ages.<\/p>\n

Role models challenge stereotypes, provide guidance and advice, and they are examples to all about\u00a0overcoming prejudice and discrimination and about being proud of who you are.<\/p>\n

This exhibition is designed to share experiences, good and bad, and to be a reminder that we are all citizens of this beautifully diverse world.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

LGBT History Month \u2013 Film Screening \u2013 Call Me by Your Name \u2013 Friday 2 February 2018<\/h2>\n

On Friday 2 February 2018 at 7pm there will be a re-screening of Call Me By Your Name at the Gulbenkian Cinema.<\/p>\n

LGBT Flag Raising<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>The flag raising will kick-start\u00a0the CCCU\u00a0month of activity and will bring the community together to show their support for equality for all.\u00a0 The flag will be flown across the month to show the University\u2019s proud support for LGBT History Month.<\/span><\/p>\n

Researching the Rainbow Conference 2018 \u2013 Registration now open!<\/h2>\n

Registration is now open for the Researching the Rainbow Conference from 15.00 \u2013 19.00 on Thursday 15 February 2018 <\/strong>in Grimond Lecture Theatre 1 on the Canterbury campus. We strongly suggest you register online<\/a> to confirm your place by Monday 5 February<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The conference, which forms part of the University\u2019s LGBT History Month celebrations, is to\u00a0showcase the vast array of excellent research being done on or related to LGBT+ people and\u00a0issues, and to encourage multi-disciplinary collaboration and networking. The conference will be opened by University of Kent Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Karen Cox, who also acts at the Executive Group\u2019s LGBT+ Champion.<\/p>\n

Topics include literary and cinematic representations of homosexuality, transsexuality in mental health care and the legal system, and the decolonization of sexuality, from students and academics from a range of schools and disciplines, as well as external partners.<\/p>\n

Following the success of last year\u2019s inaugural event, the LGBT+ Staff Network\u00a0is pleased to open the call for papers for the Researching the Rainbow Conference from 15.00 \u2013 19.00 on Thursday 15 February 2018 <\/strong>on the Canterbury campus. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The conference, which takes part during LGBT History Month, is to\u00a0showcase the vast array of excellent research being done at Kent on or related to LGBT+ people and\u00a0issues, and to encourage multi-disciplinary collaboration and networking. The conference will be opened by University of Kent Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Karen Cox, who also acts at the Executive Group\u2019s LGBT+ Champion.<\/p>\n

Speakers last year included academics and students from the Schools of English, Law and History, discussing topics such as British colonial laws on sodomy, transgender and parenting identities within the law, homosexual WWII clandestine operatives and queer exhibitions at the Institute of Contemporary Art.<\/p>\n

Research posters from students and academics\u00a0from across the University are also welcomed for display. If you would like to do a talk (30 minutes) or display a poster,\u00a0please email lgbtstaffnetwork@kent.ac.uk<\/a>\u00a0by Monday 15 January<\/strong>. The conference is free and open to all.<\/p>\n
