As some of you may know, the Learning Technologists usually have some involvement in the approval, and in some cases implementation, of Challenge Fund bids. The Challenge Fund is a pot of money available to anyone with an idea to improve teaching and learning at Kent.
This time around we decided to bid for some funding ourselves. Our project centres around the evaluation of consumer technologies used in an educational context. We have acquired several pieces of hardware to evaluate, from netbooks to iPods to video recorders, and have set up several mini-projects to use them with. These projects include:
• Evaluation of iPhone/iPod Touch Apps for learning.
• Investigation into low-cost, scaleable lecture recording scenarios.
• Investigation into offline electronic marking of essays.
Each project has its own objectives and outcomes, and may require input from academics. You can therefor expect to see invitations and reviews on this subject appearing here soon.
