{"id":965,"date":"2015-09-25T13:47:56","date_gmt":"2015-09-25T12:47:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/?p=965"},"modified":"2015-09-25T13:47:56","modified_gmt":"2015-09-25T12:47:56","slug":"guest-lecture-by-oliver-saxby-qc-on-1-october","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/guest-lecture-by-oliver-saxby-qc-on-1-october\/","title":{"rendered":"Guest lecture by Oliver Saxby QC on 1 October"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">Barrister <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.6pumpcourt.co.uk\/barrister\/oliver-saxby-qc\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Calibri\">Oliver Saxby QC<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\"> will give a guest lecture about life at the criminal bar to students on Kent\u2019s Canterbury campus on Thursday 1 October.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">The lecture is the first in a range of events\u00a0 to be organised for students by the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/clinic\/index.html\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Calibri\">Kent Law Clinic<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\"> at Kent Law School.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">This first event has been organised by the Law Clinic\u2019s Criminal Justice Project team. Law Clinic Solicitor Lucy Welsh said: \u2018Oliver Saxby QC is a very able and experienced barrister based at 6 Pump Court who has participated in a number of high profile, complex cases. He\u2019ll be talking about what it\u2019s like to be a barrister in criminal law, the rewards and challenges of the job. He is sure to have some interesting tales to tell!\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">All are welcome to attend the lecture which will be held in the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/maps\/Canterbury\/canterbury_campus\/building\/eliot-college\/e-lyons-rm\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Calibri\">Eliot Lyons<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\"> seminar room at 6.30pm. A meet and greet gathering will be held in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/catering\/where-to-eat\/eliot.html\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Calibri\">Mungos<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\"> following the talk, giving attendees an opportunity to meet other students, members of staff at Kent Law Clinic and some of the Law Clinic\u2019s volunteer legal advisers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">Other events planned by the Law Clinic this year range from further guest speaker events to pub quizzes. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">Earlier this month, the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/clinic\/teams\/criminal.html\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Calibri\">Criminal Justice Project<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\"> (CJP) team began offering <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/news\/index.html?view=915\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Calibri\">free prison law advice<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\"> to prisoners in the local community.
