Darren Weir<\/a>, senior lecturer at Kent Law School<\/a>, has been awarded a National Teaching Fellowship<\/a>, one of the UK\u2019s highest honours for teaching excellence.<\/p>\n

Darren received the award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to legal education and his work helping students develop the skills, confidence and experience they need to succeed in the legal profession.<\/p>\n

The Fellowship, awarded by Advance HE<\/a>, recognises individuals<\/a> who have made an outstanding impact on teaching and student success across UK higher education.<\/p>\n

Reacting to the award, Darren Weir said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI am absolutely delighted to receive a National Teaching Fellowship. I was surprised and proud simply to be nominated by the University, so to receive the award against such strong national competition is a real honour.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cMy work has always been about helping students see themselves as future lawyers by connecting legal education with real practice. This award also recognises the students, colleagues, practitioners and partners who have helped create those opportunities at Kent Law School.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Darren\u2019s work focuses on legal education, advocacy, simulation, professional skills development, employability and Kent\u2019s First Year Lawyering Skills School. He has also led initiatives that prepare students for careers in the legal profession, including qualifying work experience.<\/p>\n

His teaching combines academic study with practical legal exercises, helping students develop the knowledge, skills and experience needed for professional practice. His work has also contributed to wider developments in practice-based legal education.<\/p>\n

The award comes just days after the formation of the London and South East University Group (LASE), the UK\u2019s first multi-university group, bringing together the Universities of Kent and Greenwich while both institutions retain their own names, courses and identities.<\/p>\n

Professor Jane Harrington, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of LASE, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr Edd Pitt, Institutional Teaching Excellence Awards Lead at Kent<\/strong>, who was himself awarded the Fellowship last year, supported Darren throughout the application process. He said the award recognised the wider impact of his teaching across the higher education sector.<\/p>\n
