{"id":712,"date":"2015-06-29T10:18:54","date_gmt":"2015-06-29T09:18:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/?p=712"},"modified":"2015-07-03T09:24:54","modified_gmt":"2015-07-03T08:24:54","slug":"students-showcase-richness-and-diversity-of-legal-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/students-showcase-richness-and-diversity-of-legal-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Students showcase richness and diversity of legal research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The richness and diversity of legal research undertaken by postgraduate research students at Kent Law School has been showcased at the School\u2019s annual PhD Presentation Day this month.<\/p>\n<p>The work of 14 second-year PhD students was presented to supervisors, faculty and peers over the course of a day in a series of sessions chaired by the students themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Co-Directors of Graduate Studies Dr Emily Haslam\u00a0and Dr Donatella Alessandrini said: \u2018Although the Presentation Day forms part of second-year PhD students&#8217; progress reviews, it is also an opportunity to celebrate the wonderful breadth and depth of research that is undertaken by our PGR students.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Research currently being conducted by students embraces topics such as violence against women, child sexual exploitation, human trafficking and internet governance with their work focused on contemporary legal issues in countries all over the world. A full list of project titles from the day is included below.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Haslam said: \u2018Feedback from our students about the day has been really positive and many commented on how much they appreciated hearing comments about their projects from so many members of faculty, especially at such a busy time of year.\u00a0\u00a0Our postgraduate researchers really appreciate the support and input in their work from the broader community at Kent Law School.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>PhD student Aravinda Kosaraju said: \u2018My day started with a sense of anxiety, but ended with a sense of contentment. \u00a0I feel that my work is valued by the Kent Law School community. I found the presentations from fellow students and comments from members of the community to be very thoughtful and engaging.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Josephine Uwineza also enjoyed the opportunity to present her work: &#8216;I really enjoyed the presentation day, I received valuable feedback from the KLS research community and generally had a good time listening to others present. The Law School is a vibrant and cosmopolitan place to study and is widely regarded as a centre of excellence in legal research and teaching.
