{"id":6868,"date":"2022-02-24T19:01:46","date_gmt":"2022-02-24T19:01:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/?p=6868"},"modified":"2022-02-24T19:06:38","modified_gmt":"2022-02-24T19:06:38","slug":"right-to-food-the-focus-of-the-cecil-annual-lecture-and-other-special-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/right-to-food-the-focus-of-the-cecil-annual-lecture-and-other-special-events\/","title":{"rendered":"Right to food the focus of the CeCIL Annual Lecture and other special events"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The UN Special Rapporteur On The Right To Food,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/EN\/Issues\/Food\/Pages\/Michael_Fakhri.aspx\">Professor Michael Fakhri<\/a>, will participate in a number of free public and academic events at the University on 7 and 8 March.<\/p>\n<p>Organised by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/cecil\/\">Centre for Critical International Law (CeCIL)<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\">Kent Law School<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/about\/law-society-and-social-justice\">Division of Law, Society and Social Justice (LSSJ)<\/a>, these events will consider the impact of Covid-19 on food security and the right to food worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>During his visit, Professor Fakhri will deliver the 2021-2022 CeCIL Annual Lecture at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thegulbenkian.co.uk\/\">Gulbenkian Arts Centre<\/a>\u00a0on 8 March (7-9pm), preceeded by a reception (6-7pm). His lecture, entitled, \u2018The Radical Potential of the Right to Food\u2019, is free and open to all. This event will be live-streamed by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/kmtv\">KMTV<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On 7 March, Professor Fakhri, who is also Director of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/law.uoregon.edu\/academics\/centers\/enr\/research\/frp\">Food Resiliency Project<\/a>\u00a0at the University of Oregon School of Law, will participate in an in-conversation style event featuring Young Food Ambassadors from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/foodfoundation.org.uk\/\">The Food Foundation<\/a>\u00a0and the organisation\u2019s Executive Director,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/foodfoundation.org.uk\/who-we-are#team\">Anna Taylor<\/a>. Organised and hosted by CeCIL and LSSJ, this event will take place in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/maps\/canterbury\/canterbury-campus\/building\/keynes-college\/\">Keynes College\u00a0<\/a>Lecture Theatre 1 (7-8.30pm), preceeded by a reception (6-7pm). Free tickets for this event are available\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cecilconversationwith.eventbrite.co.uk\/\">here<\/a>.\u00a0This event will also be live-streamed by KMTV.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to these public events, Professor Fakhri will attend seminars with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/postgraduate\">Law LLM<\/a>\u00a0students at Kent Law School to share Special Rapporteur\u2019s insights, experience and expertise, as well as meetings with leaders from community groups whose work interfaces with Professor Fakhri\u2019s mandate to address the need for an integrated and coordinated approach to promoting and protecting people\u2019s right to food.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Fakhri\u2019s visit will feed into the Special Rapporteur\u2019s broader consultations on identifying solutions to mitigate harmful impacts of the pandemic on the realisation of the right to food.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/people\/1167\/eslava-luis\">Dr Luis Eslava<\/a>, CeCIL Co-Director and Reader in International Law at Kent Law School, said: \u2018We are extremely honoured to be hosting Professor Fakhri.
