You\u2019ll find a reassuring range of schemes in place to help you succeed in your degree.<\/p>\n<p>At Kent Law School (KLS), you\u2019ll be able to take advantage of supportive initiatives such as our KLS Skills Hub the University\u2019s Academic Peer Mentoring scheme, and Student Support provision within the wider Division in which KLS is based (the Division for the study of Law, Society and Social Justice \u2013 LSSJ).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/files\/2022\/02\/OD_091021-034.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6826\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/files\/2022\/02\/OD_091021-034.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>KLS Skills Hub<\/h2>\n<p>Our <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/kls-skills-hub\/\">KLS Skills Hub<\/a> provides academic skills support for all our law students. The Hub offers extensive online resources to support you in your legal study as well as a range of workshops and bookable appointments. Our resources are designed to help you develop those legal specific skills that you\u2019ll need throughout your course of study.\u00a0 The Skills Hub team is comprised of legal academics who know first hand about the assessments you will be working on and what you need to do to achieve success.<\/p>\n<p>The KLS Skills Hub team offers one-to-one appointments delivered online to provide academic skills support and advice.<\/p>\n<p>We run a series of workshops covering topics such as<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reading and note-taking techniques<\/li>\n<li>Legal referencing using OSCOLA<\/li>\n<li>Time management<\/li>\n<li>Writing critical legal essays<\/li>\n<li>What are good sources and how do I find them?<\/li>\n<li>How to build a successful argument<\/li>\n<li>Planning and structuring your assessments<\/li>\n<li>Oral presentation skills<\/li>\n<li>Exam techniques<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Students in Stages 2+ can also take part in our \u2018Making the Grade\u2019 program which is designed to help students develop the specific skills necessary to achieve 2.1 or First class marks. Our student mentors are Stage 2+ law students who are there to offer advice and encouragement to in your first year of study, from Welcome Week and throughout the whole of your first year. The mentor is a direct and informal point of contact. They draw on their own experiences of what it\u2019s like to be a new student in KLS and help to make sure that &#8211; as a new student &#8211; you settle into university life.<\/p>\n<p>More broadly, the University offers further support through the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/student-learning-advisory-service\">Student Learning Advisory Service<\/a>\u00a0(SLAS).<\/p>\n<h2>LSSJ Student Support<\/h2>\n<p>The dedicated Student Support team within our Division are on-hand during term time &#8211; and most vacations &#8211; to provide you with confidential, sensitive support and guidance. Our Student Support Officers, based in the Eliot Extension building at Canterbury, can help you if: you&#8217;re experiencing personal circumstances which are having an impact on your studies; if you&#8217;re struggling to attend your timetabled sessions; or if you have an important appointment &#8211; such as a medical appointment &#8211; which clashes with a timetabled session.<\/p>\n<p>The Student Support team can also help if you&#8217;re concerned that you&#8217;re not going to be able to meet a coursework deadline or that your personal circumstances may have an undue impact on your exams.
