{"id":6370,"date":"2021-06-07T10:35:31","date_gmt":"2021-06-07T09:35:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/?p=6370"},"modified":"2021-06-07T10:35:31","modified_gmt":"2021-06-07T09:35:31","slug":"fourth-hearing-of-airspace-tribunal-to-be-hosted-online-in-berlin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/fourth-hearing-of-airspace-tribunal-to-be-hosted-online-in-berlin\/","title":{"rendered":"Fourth hearing of Airspace Tribunal to be hosted online in Berlin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">The Airspace Tribunal &#8211; a people\u2019s tribunal established by Kent Law School Emeritus Professor Nick Grief and Shona Illingworth (Kent School of Arts) \u2013 is holding its fourth international hearing online this week, hosted in Berlin.<\/p>\n<p>The Tribunal is examining the case for and against a proposed new human right to live without physical or psychological threat from above. Hearings have already been held in London (2018), Sydney (2019) and Toronto (2020).<\/p>\n<p>The Berlin hearing will be hosted on Wednesday 9 June and Friday 11 June by the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR), supported by the University of Kent.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mailings.ecchr.eu\/c\/59423250\/f6c370716d9c-qubm6p\">Andreas Sch\u00fcller<\/a>, director of ECCHR&#8217;s International Crimes and Accountability program, will Chair the event and each session will be introduced by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mailings.ecchr.eu\/c\/59423483\/f6c370716d9c-qubm6p\">Shona Illingworth<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/mailings.ecchr.eu\/c\/59423484\/f6c370716d9c-qubm6p\">Professor Grief<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Speakers include: <strong>Chris Woods<\/strong>\u00a0(founder and Director of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mailings.ecchr.eu\/c\/59423251\/f6c370716d9c-qubm6p\">Airwars<\/a>); <strong>Jutta Weber<\/strong>\u00a0(science &amp; technology studies scholar,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mailings.ecchr.eu\/c\/59423252\/f6c370716d9c-qubm6p\">University of Paderborn<\/a>); <strong>Lisa Ling<\/strong>\u00a0(<a href=\"http:\/\/mailings.ecchr.eu\/c\/59423253\/f6c370716d9c-qubm6p\">whistleblower\u00a0<\/a>on US drone surveillance systems); <strong>Alirio Uribe Mu\u00f1oz<\/strong>\u00a0(lawyer,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mailings.ecchr.eu\/c\/59423254\/f6c370716d9c-qubm6p\">CAJAR<\/a>); <strong>Sebasti\u00e1n Escobar Uribe<\/strong>\u00a0(lawyer,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mailings.ecchr.eu\/c\/59423254\/f6c370716d9c-qubm6p\">CAJAR<\/a>); <strong>Omar Mohammed<\/strong>\u00a0(journalist,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mailings.ecchr.eu\/c\/59423481\/f6c370716d9c-qubm6p\">Mosul Eye<\/a>); <strong>Pratap Chatterjee<\/strong>\u00a0(journalist and Executive Director,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mailings.ecchr.eu\/c\/59423482\/f6c370716d9c-qubm6p\">CorpWatch<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>The speakers will be questioned by Counsel to the Tribunal,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mailings.ecchr.eu\/c\/59422265\/f6c370716d9c-qubm6p\">Kirsty Brimelow QC<\/a>, before taking questions from the audience (the Tribunal\u2019s judges).\u00a0At the end of the proceedings, members of the audience will be able to vote for or against recognising the proposed human right.
