{"id":5574,"date":"2020-08-05T15:48:54","date_gmt":"2020-08-05T14:48:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/?p=5574"},"modified":"2020-08-11T09:03:03","modified_gmt":"2020-08-11T08:03:03","slug":"aspiring-barristers-at-kent-scoop-prestigious-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/aspiring-barristers-at-kent-scoop-prestigious-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Aspiring barristers at Kent scoop prestigious awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">Seven Kent Law School students are celebrating this summer after securing awards from two of the four Inns of Court, taking them one big step closer to achieving their dream of becoming a barrister.<\/p>\n<h3>Beronique Addington<\/h3>\n<p>Law LLB student Beronique Addington attributes her experiences of mooting and a critical legal education at Kent as being the keys to success in securing a \u00a310k scholarship from the The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple.<\/p>\n<p>Beronique was awarded Middle Temple\u2019s Winston Churchill Scholarship, worth \u00a310,750, after being interviewed virtually by a panel comprising three barristers.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/news\/5414\/law-student-beronique-addington-secures-10k-middle-temple-scholarship-thanks-to-mooting-and-critical-legal-education\">Read Beronique&#8217;s story<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Queenet Awesu<\/h3>\n<p>The \u201cart of being critical\u201d helped Kent law student Queenet Awesu secure a \u00a313k scholarship from The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple.<\/p>\n<p>The Inn\u2019s Diana, Princess of Wales Scholarship, is given to candidates deemed specially deserving of financial assistance with interview criteria including an assessment of character and ability to overcome adversity.<\/p>\n<p>The award will help fund the costs of the Bar Practice Course LLM that Queenet will study at the University of Law, on her path to becoming a barrister. She was also awarded the Blackstone Entrance Exhibition worth \u00a3230 which covers Middle Temple\u2019s Admission and Call Fees.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/news\/5406\/art-of-being-critical-helps-aspiring-barrister-queenet-awesu-secure-13k-middle-temple-scholarship\">Read Queenet&#8217;s story\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Beatrice Fatungase<\/h3>\n<p>A commitment to work experience and developing her CV paid off for aspiring criminal barrister, Beatrice Fatungase, who was awarded a \u00a314k scholarship by The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple.<\/p>\n<p>Beatrice has always wanted to be a barrister and says it\u2019s the only job she could see herself doing and enjoying. She could hardly believe it when she heard she had secured a Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Scholarship from Middle Temple. Beatrice said: \u2018I was in disbelief because I knew how many people applied and the likelihood of getting one was most likely slim.\u2019 The scholarship awarded to Beatrice is one of only three given to candidates deemed specially deserving of financial assistance. Interview criteria includes an assessment of character and ability to overcome adversity.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/news\/5431\/commitment-to-work-experience-helps-aspiring-barrister-beatrice-fatungase-secure-14k-middle-temple-scholarship\">Read Beatrice&#8217;s story\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Cara Hall<\/h3>\n<p>After securing a prestigious Bar Course scholarship on her third attempt, Kent Law School alumna Cara Hall shares her experience and offers six key pieces of advice for fellow aspiring barristers<\/p>\n<p>Cara was one of a very select few to be awarded this year\u2019s Middle Temple Queen Mother Scholarship \u2013 a scholarship that\u2019s only awarded to candidates deemed \u2018the most all-round impressive\u2019. We caught up with Cara (who graduated in 2018) to find out more\u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/news\/5509\/tenacity-pays-off-for-alumna-cara-hall-awarded-middle-temples-queen-mother-scholarship\">Read Cara&#8217;s story <\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Milly Webb<\/h3>\n<p>Advocacy skills developed through mooting at Kent Law School played a vital role in helping aspiring barrister Milly Webb secure a Gray\u2019s Inn Scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>Milly, a final-year Law LLB student, was awarded a \u00a35,000 Cynthia Terry Scholarhship by Gray\u2019s Inn to help fund her Bar Practice Course (BPC). She said: \u2018It means so much to feel supported and backed by the Inn as they are essentially investing in my future. I also felt incredibly proud and excited to be able to call myself a Gray\u2019s Inn Scholar.
