Legal and ethical issues raised by the COVID-19 pandemic are at the forefront of a new LLM (Master\u2019s in Law) pathway in Law and Health<\/a> at Kent Law School.<\/p>\n

Applications are open for students to begin exploring issues central to health law in September or January (either full-time or part-time). The programme is taught by a wide range of leading experts and informed by world-leading research. It offers excellent preparation for anyone seeking a career in law, health, the public and voluntary sectors, or government.<\/p>\n

Pathway convenor Professor Sally Sheldon<\/a>, a specialist in health care law and ethics, said: \u2018The new Kent Law and Health LLM pathway will explore the political contexts that impact the regulation of health, and consider the complex interrelationships between health, law and regulation. As a student, you\u2019ll develop skills in formulating legal and ethical arguments on central issues of controversy. And you\u2019ll effectively apply your knowledge to a wide range of situations where relevant practical, policy or theoretical issues are under consideration. This year, a sustained focus on the issues raised by responding to Covid-19 will offer a jumping off point for broader study.\u2019<\/p>\n

Medical law expert Dr Pamela White<\/a>, who teaches on the pathway, said: \u2018As LLM students, you\u2019ll have the opportunity to delve deeper into topics that you found of interest in your undergraduate studies \u2013 topics such as human rights and health law. It\u2019s also a unique opportunity to reflect on the short-term and long-term implications of the COVID-19 pandemic and its implications for health law and ethics.\u2019<\/p>\n

The pathway, one of a suite of nine Kent LLM specialisations<\/a> taught at Kent Law School, is equally suitable for people with a background in law, medicine and allied disciplines with a strong interest in understanding the role and scope of health law in contemporary domestic and global society.<\/p>\n
