She was asked to respond to calls from representative bodies of the Garda (Ireland\u2019s national police force) that policing oversight bodies should be merged.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Conway said: \u2018I argued that this would lead to confusion in practice and potentially a watering down of accountability, given that the justification of the proposal was to save money.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>You can listen again to Dr Conway\u2019s interview on the RTE <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rte.ie\/radio1\/drivetime\/programmes\/2015\/0330\/690943-drivetime-monday-30-march-2015\/?clipid=1844011\"><em>Drivetime<\/em><\/a> website (with Dr Conway\u2019s interview beginning approximately one hour and 40 minutes into the clip).<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday evening, Dr Conway was asked to participate in a panel discussion on RTE&#8217;s <em>Late Debate<\/em>. Dr Conway said: \u2018The discussion concerned a Commission of Inquiry which is looking both at how the last police Commissioner came to resign amid allegations he was illegally sacked, and at concerns of the recording of solicitor \u2013 client phone calls in Garda stations over a 20 year period.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Listen again to the debate on the RTE <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rte.ie\/radio1\/the-late-debate\/\"><em>Late Debate<\/em><\/a> website.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Conway\u2019s research expertise in policing, miscarriages of justice and criminology is regularly called upon by Irish media. Last year, she was quoted as a \u2018top security expert\u2019 by Irish newspaper, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.herald.ie\/news\/bug-fears-must-be-focus-of-probe-says-top-security-expert-29999857.html\">Herald.ie<\/a><\/em>. She has previously appeared on RTE Radio 1&#8217;s <em>Morning Ireland<\/em> show, the <em>Morning Edition<\/em> on RTE One (a live, national news and discussion programme on Ireland&#8217;s mainstream television channel) and on Newstalk&#8217;s <em>Lunchtime<\/em> radio programme.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Conway is the author of <em>The Blue Wall of Silence on police accountability and the Morris Tribunal<\/em>. Her third book, <em>Policing Twentieth Century Ireland<\/em> was published last year by Routledge.
