Professor Erika Rackley<\/a>, an expert on\u00a0issues relating to image-based sexual abuse.<\/p>\nProfessor Rackley commented: \u2018Upskirting is just one form of image-based sexual abuse. Upskirting, \u2018revenge porn\u2019, \u2018fake porn\u2019, \u2018sextortion\u2019 and\u00a0other forms of image-based sexual abuse all involve the non-consensual taking and\/or sharing of private sexual images.<\/p>\n
\u2018All of these cause serious harms to victims. Unfortunately, the law criminalising image-based sexual abuse is inconsistent and inadequate.\u00a0There is still much more to be done to ensure all victims of image-based sexual abuse have access to justice.<\/p>\n
\u2018What is needed is\u00a0a coherent and comprehensive law criminalising all forms of image-based sexual abuse.\u00a0A law which tackles all forms of non-consensual taking, creation and distribution of private, sexual images, and which provides automatic anonymity for all victim-survivors.<\/p>\n
\u2018And we need to ensure that\u00a0those supporting victim-survivors of image-based sexual abuse \u2013 such as the Revenge Porn Helpline and VOIC \u2013 are adequately resourced and supported.\u2019<\/p>\n
Professor Rackley has written widely on issues relating to image-based sexual abuse, and is\u00a0currently participating in a project with colleagues in Australia, New Zealand and the UK on the prevalence and impact of image-based sexual abuse.<\/p>\n
