Taking the plunge with her are Senior Law Lecturer Dr Karen Devine, Assistant Lecturer Janie Clement-Walker, Office Manager’s Assistant Amy Parkes and first year Kent Film student Amy Brown.

The team will be abseiling down Miller House in Maidstone with the KM Charity Team on Sunday 15 March.

Staff at Kent Law School previously raised £850 at a craft sale for CHAC, a charity which is chaired by Nick Jackson, a Senior Law Lecturer at the School.

Founded in 1991, CHAC works to prevent homelessness in Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay. Specialist caseworkers support people at risk of eviction or repossession. They offer advice on mortgage arrears, tenancy rights and housing benefit.

In April last year, the charity suffered major funding cuts and urgently needs to raise more than £40,000 in 2015 to continue meeting demand for its services.

Professor Herman said: ‘I am very happy to support this local charity doing important work in our community and with which the School already has established links. Please donate, if you can, to raise funds to keep Canterbury Housing Advice Centre open.’

Team member Amy Brown, who is also a volunteer with Canterbury Homeless Outreach, said: ‘Homelessness in Kent is growing but it is something we can stop; we can also stop the devastating stereotypes believed by the public and help give the homeless a better name. My aim is to raise awareness and to help the less fortunate.

‘I believe raising money for CHAC, and in turn the homeless people of Canterbury, is a great cause. If I have to jump off a building to prove it, then so be it! Please help by sponsoring us.
