{"id":325,"date":"2015-02-06T10:56:38","date_gmt":"2015-02-06T10:56:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/?p=325"},"modified":"2015-02-06T10:56:38","modified_gmt":"2015-02-06T10:56:38","slug":"professor-perry-kessaris-shortlisted-for-socio-legal-article-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/professor-perry-kessaris-shortlisted-for-socio-legal-article-prize\/","title":{"rendered":"Professor Perry-Kessaris shortlisted for Socio-Legal Article Prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An article written by Kent legal academic Professor Amanda Perry-Kessaris has been shortlisted for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slsa.ac.uk\/index.php\/prizes-grants-and-seminars\/prizes\">Socio-Legal Article Prize<\/a> 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The article, \u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/clp.oxfordjournals.org.chain.kent.ac.uk\/content\/67\/1\/169.full.pdf+html\">The Case for a Visualised Economic Sociology of Legal Development<\/a>\u2019, originally published in the journal <em>Current Legal Problems<\/em> (Vol. 67), is one of three that has been shortlisted by the Socio-Legal Studies Association (SLSA) as an outstanding piece of socio-legal scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>In the article, Professor Perry-Kessaris explores how an interdisciplinary, econo-socio-legal approach to legal development could be radically improved using graphic design techniques such as typography and information design.<\/p>\n<p>It is the second consecutive year an academic from Kent Law School has been shortlisted for the Socio-Legal Article Prize; last year, the prize was won by PhD student (and alumna) Sarah Keenan for her article &#8216;Property as governance: time, space and belonging in Australia\u2019s Northern Territory intervention&#8217; in the <em>Modern Law Review<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s winner will be announced during the SLSA\u2019s forthcoming annual conference.<\/p>\n<p>The field of legal development is a major focus of Professor Perry-Kessaris\u2019s current research. She has a particular interest in exploring the potential of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/research\/beyondkls\/visualisinglaw.html\">visual communication<\/a> at every stage of the legal research process. Examples of her work with graphic design can be found on her blog, <a href=\"http:\/\/econosociolegal.blogspot.co.uk\/\">Approaching the econo-socio-legal<\/a>, and on her online <a href=\"http:\/\/cargocollective.com\/AmandaPerryKessaris\/\">design portfolio<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Perry-Kessaris is also the academic coordinator for a collaborative project called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/tiap\/index.html\">Thinking into | about practice<\/a> which asks academics and practitioners to use images and text to reflect upon their experience in the field of law and development.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Perry-Kessaris studied law, economics, ethnography and graphic design before joining Kent in 2013. To learn more about her publications and research, visit her <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/people\/academic\/Perry-Kessaris,_Amanda.html\">staff profile page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, the SLSA also awarded the Hart Socio-Legal Book Prize to Dr Emilie Cloatre from Kent Law School, for her book <em>Pills for the Poorest: An Exploration of TRIPS and Access to Medication in Sub-Saharan Africa<\/em>.
