{"id":3035,"date":"2018-03-19T13:20:49","date_gmt":"2018-03-19T13:20:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/?p=3035"},"modified":"2018-03-19T13:20:49","modified_gmt":"2018-03-19T13:20:49","slug":"summer-school-in-nigeria-on-global-trade-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/summer-school-in-nigeria-on-global-trade-law\/","title":{"rendered":"Summer School in Nigeria on Global Trade Law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A four-day Summer School on Global Trade Law will be held in Nigeria in September.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the first Kent Summer School to be hosted in Africa and is being organised by Kent Law School&#8217;s International Commercial Law expert Dr Gbenga Oduntan.<\/p>\n<p>The Summer School will focus on aspects of the law and practice of international business transactions and the legal regulation of the relationship between buyers and sellers as well as interactions between businesses in different jurisdictions.<\/p>\n<p>Guest speakers include\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/people\/academic\/Cain,_Ruth.html\">Dr Ruth Cain,\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/people\/academic\/Magaisa,_Alex.html\">Dr Alex Magaisa\u00a0<\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/people\/academic\/Oduntan,_Gbenga.html\">Dr Oduntan<\/a>, all from Kent Law School.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/files\/2018\/03\/summerschool.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3037\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/files\/2018\/03\/summerschool-300x106.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"106\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/files\/2018\/03\/summerschool-300x106.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/files\/2018\/03\/summerschool.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Topics to be addressed during the Summer School include the legal rules governing export sales, international sale of goods, their transportation, finance of transnational trade and their insurance implications, international marketing operations, dispute settlement and mechanisms.<\/p>\n<p>Classes will take an interactive and comparative approach and special attention will be given to current and critical perspectives such as Brexit, the explosion of international mergers and acquisitions, international commercial arbitration and alternative dispute resolution techniques as well as the transportation and carriage of goods by sea.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/summerschools\/programmes\/globaltradelaw.html\">Summer School<\/a> will be hosted by the Kent Centre for International Studies in Lagos, Nigeria, from Monday 3 September to Thursday 6 September. It is likely to be of interest to students, professionals in law, business, logistics, economics or the social sciences, professionals exploring options for postgraduate study, business owners, civil servants, policy makers, political leaders and civil society officials.<\/p>\n<p>The cost (\u00a3350) includes tuition, and drink and lunch receptions. Attendees will cover their own travel, accommodation and subsistence fees. (The organisers will be happy to recommend and help arrange hotel accommodation once the venue is confirmed.)<\/p>\n<p>Limited financial assistance will be available in the form of scholarships for a small number of excellent applicants who would otherwise not be able to attend. The scholarship application deadline is 5pm on Monday 2 July 2018.
