{"id":237,"date":"2015-01-08T10:29:02","date_gmt":"2015-01-08T10:29:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/?p=237"},"modified":"2015-01-29T13:43:15","modified_gmt":"2015-01-29T13:43:15","slug":"apply-now-for-the-kent-summer-school-in-critical-theory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/apply-now-for-the-kent-summer-school-in-critical-theory\/","title":{"rendered":"Apply now for Kent Summer School in Critical Theory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Applications are now open for the inaugural <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kssct.org\/\">Kent Summer School in Critical Theory<\/a> to be held at the University of Kent\u2019s centre in Paris.<\/p>\n<p>The Summer School, supported by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\">Kent Law School<\/a> and its interdisciplinary <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/cct\/\">Centre for Critical Thought<\/a>, has been created to offer a unique intellectual experience to early career academics and research students and has been jointly organised by Reader in Law Maria Drakopoulou and Law Lecturer Connal Parsley.<\/p>\n<p>It will run at Reid Hall, on Rue de Chevreuse (close to the Jardin de Luxembourg) from 29 June to 10 July 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Maria Drakopoulou said: \u2018This new summer school enables leading critical thinkers to conduct an intensive two-week seminar with members of a new generation of critical scholars.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We believe it is increasingly important to proliferate and defend spaces for critical thinking in the contemporary academy. Equally important is the maintenance of spaces within the PhD and early career calendar to pursue the kind of academic practice that engenders genuine and sustained intellectual activity.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Professor\u00a0Peter Goodrich,\u00a0Professor of Law at Cardozo Law School in the USA, will lead a seminar entitled &#8216;Inventing Law&#8217; and Professor Davide Tarizzo, an Italian philosopher, who teaches at the University of Salerno, will lead a seminar, entitled &#8216;From Democracy to Fascism: Freud, Lacan, and the Enigma of Modern Politics&#8217;.\u00a0Additional lectures will be delivered by Professor\u00a0Geoffrey Bennington,\u00a0Professor Davina Cooper, and\u00a0Professor Roberto Esposito.<\/p>\n<p>Successful applicants will work with just one of the seminar teachers but will have the opportunity to hear lectures by all participating academics.<\/p>\n<p>The cost for the school, (exclusive of travel, accommodation and subsistence fees), is \u00a3850.
