{"id":2111,"date":"2016-12-01T11:22:42","date_gmt":"2016-12-01T11:22:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/?p=2111"},"modified":"2016-12-01T11:42:23","modified_gmt":"2016-12-01T11:42:23","slug":"2111","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/2111\/","title":{"rendered":"Study day in Paris in honour of Professor Geoffrey Samuel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A study day in honour of Kent Law School Professor Geoffrey Samuel and his work on \u2018Comparative Legal Reasoning\u2019 will be hosted in Paris on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Hosted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/cecl\/index.html\">Kent Centre for European and Comparative Law<\/a> (Kent CECL) the event will be held at the University of Kent\u2019s centre in Paris at Reid Hall. Pascal Pichonnaz, Universit\u00e9 de Fribourg<\/li>\n<li>Patterns of Migration (from Civilian to Common Law) at the Limits of Property, Anne Bottomley, University of Kent<\/li>\n<li>On Legal Forms of Intolerance (and How They Travel), Horatia Muir Watt, Sciences Po Paris<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/people\/academic\/Samuel,_Geoffrey.html\">Professor Samuel<\/a>\u00a0is a specialist in comparative law. He is a visiting professor at universities across France and Europe and is currently Professor affili\u00e9 at the \u00c9cole de droit, Sciences-Po in Paris.<\/p>\n<p>As well as teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students at Kent Law School, he is also a member of the Editorial Board of the <em>Journal of Comparative Law<\/em>. He has published many book chapters and articles in the fields of comparative law and legal reasoning. His most recent book, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.e-elgar.com\/shop\/a-short-introduction-to-judging-and-to-legal-reasoning\">A Short Introduction to Judging and to Legal Reasoning<\/a><\/em>, was published in August by Edward Elgar. Taking three distinct perspectives, the book considers what legal reasoning has been; what legal reasoning is from the view of judges and jurists; and what legal reasoning is from the view of a social science epistemologist or humanities specialist.<\/p>\n<p>Other recent books include\u00a0<em>Rethinking Legal Reasoning<\/em>\u00a0(2016, Edward Elgar) and\u00a0<em>An Introduction to Comparative Law Theory and Method<\/em>\u00a0(2014, Hart Publishing).<\/p>\n<p>Kent CECL\u00a0provides a collaborative framework for the further development of Kent Law School&#8217;s extensive activities in the areas of European and comparative law.
