{"id":1817,"date":"2016-08-03T13:20:58","date_gmt":"2016-08-03T12:20:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/?p=1817"},"modified":"2016-08-03T13:20:58","modified_gmt":"2016-08-03T12:20:58","slug":"registration-now-open-for-uks-critical-legal-conference-at-kent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/registration-now-open-for-uks-critical-legal-conference-at-kent\/","title":{"rendered":"Registration now open for UK&#8217;s Critical Legal Conference at Kent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Registration is now open for the UK\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/research\/clc-2016\/index.html\">Critical Legal Conference<\/a> (CLC), to be hosted this year on Kent\u2019s Canterbury campus by a team of academics from Kent Law School.<\/p>\n<p>With a theme of \u2018Turning Points\u2019 the annual gathering of international legal scholars will take place from Thursday 1 to Saturday 3 September 2016, exactly 30 years after the first CLC conference was held at Kent.<\/p>\n<p>Law Lecturer Nick Piska, a member of the organising CLC committee, said: \u2018This year we want to open a forum for reflection on the precarious political situation of the present for individuals, for markets, for nations and particularly for Europe in a global context &#8211; a theme particularly apposite for a conference at University of Kent, which both founded the CLC and is \u2018the UK\u2019s European University\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to 20 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/research\/clc-2016\/papers.html\">conference themes<\/a> and 200 papers organised into around 70 panels over the three days, plenary speakers include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/people\/academic\/Alessandrini,_Donatella.html\">Donatella Alessandrini, Kent Law School<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/womensstudies.berkeley.edu\/about\/profile\/faculty\/10\">Paola Bacchetta, Berkeley<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/web.uri.edu\/english\/meet\/kathleen-davis\/\">Kathleen Davis, University of Rhode Island<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/eipcp.net\/bio\/lorey\">Isabell Lorey, European Institute for Progressive Cultural Policies<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unisa.it\/docenti\/davidefrancescotarizzo\/en\/index\">Davide Tarizzo, University of Salerno<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbk.ac.uk\/law\/our-staff\/ft-academic\/tuitt\">Patricia Tuitt, Birkbeck School of Law<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A copy of the conference programme is available to view <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/research\/clc-2016\/programme.html\">online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The CLC conference was first launched at Kent in 1986 and this year\u2019s organisers have unearthed a number of early CLC documents in the Kent Law School\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/research\/clc-2016\/archive.html\">archive<\/a>\u00a0including documents relating to the formation of the CLC and a copy of the Call for Papers in 1986.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone wishing to attend is invited to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/research\/clc-2016\/registration.html\">register online<\/a> &#8211; those wishing to attend the conference dinner on Friday 2 September (at Westgate Hall in Canterbury) are asked to register by Wednesday 12 August.<\/p>\n<p>The CLC is characterised by its informal spirit &#8211; it has no overarching organisational structure, and each year the conference meeting decides where it will be hosted the following year.
