{"id":1338,"date":"2016-02-10T15:05:25","date_gmt":"2016-02-10T15:05:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/?p=1338"},"modified":"2016-02-10T15:42:00","modified_gmt":"2016-02-10T15:42:00","slug":"grant-for-research-into-use-of-graphic-design-in-cyprus-reunification-negotiations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/grant-for-research-into-use-of-graphic-design-in-cyprus-reunification-negotiations\/","title":{"rendered":"Grant for research into use of graphic design in Cyprus reunification negotiations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kent Law School Professor Amanda Perry-Kessaris has been awarded a grant for an innovative research project that will explore\u00a0the use of graphic design in the negotiations over the possible reunification of Cyprus.<\/p>\n<p>The grant for \u00a32730 has been awarded by the Socio-Legal Studies Association (SLSA) for a project entitled \u2018Graphic design, civil society and the current negotiations for the econo-legal reunification\u00a0of Cyprus\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Perry-Kessaris said: \u2018This project will, for the first time, explore\u00a0the actual and potential use and limitations of graphic design in relation to econo-legal aspects of post\u00a0conflict reconciliation.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It will do so through the lens of the Cyprus reunification negotiations, parties to\u00a0which are currently on a fast and credible track to submit to referendum a plan for bizonal, bicommunal federation. It will focus specifically on the use of graphic media by civil society actors to communicate about three econo-legal fields: inter-communal trade, displaced property ownership and local commercial regulation.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/people\/academic\/Perry-Kessaris,_Amanda.html\">Professor Perry-Kessaris<\/a>\u00a0has studied economics, ethnography and graphic design in addition to law; and has conducted empirical work in India, Sri Lanka and Cyprus. Her current research focuses primarily on the application of design thinking to econo-legal research and practice.
