{"id":1273,"date":"2016-01-21T15:24:01","date_gmt":"2016-01-21T15:24:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/?p=1273"},"modified":"2020-03-20T23:08:46","modified_gmt":"2020-03-20T23:08:46","slug":"scholarship-success-for-kent-law-school-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/scholarship-success-for-kent-law-school-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Scholarship success for Kent Law School students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A total of 38 scholarships have been awarded to first year law students at Kent Law School for this academic year, with 29 students receiving\u00a0Academic Excellence Scholarships; five students receiving a Partner Scholarship; two students\u00a0awarded a Music Scholarship; and two students\u00a0awarded a Student Ambassador Stipend.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/scholarships\/undergraduate\/academic\/academicexcellence.html\">Academic Excellence Scholarships<\/a> worth \u00a32,000 a year, are renewable on an annual basis. Traditionally, this scholarship has been awarded to all those who achieve AAA at A level (or specified equivalents). From 2015, (Kent\u2019s 50th Anniversary year), the scholarship was\u00a0extended to include UK, EU and Overseas students who achieved AAB at A level where one of the subjects was either Mathematics or a Modern Foreign Language. Recipients\u00a0from the Law School in 2015\/16 include: Mohammed Khan; Jessica Kilkelly; Alexandra Lima; Phoebe Lionakis; Wynona Lungga; Betty Maina; Mark Nagy-Miticzky; Nimasu Namsaren; Beatrice Nicastro; Chloe Norris-Dean; Anita Obiagwu-Ossai; Thomas O&#8217;Mahony; Patrycja Palka; Lauren Rule; Raees Rustom; Tanay Singhvi; Angelina Siracusa; Louis Solomon Jr; Raj Sookhurry; Rayyan Sorefan; Hilary Tai; Sanchia Thompson; Joshua Tolmie; Katie Wakely; Joseph Whinney; Jennifer Wilson; Che Yew Wong; and Aleksandra Zyborowicz.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secondary\/scholarships-and-funding\/index.html\">Partner Scholarships<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secondary\/scholarships-and-funding\/ambassador-stipend.html\">Student Ambassador Stipends<\/a> are awarded to UK and EU students attending partner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secondary\/partner\/schools.html\">schools<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secondary\/associate\/index.html\">colleges<\/a> including members of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secondary\/partner\/kmpf.html\">Kent and Medway Progression Federation<\/a>. They are each worth \u00a31,000 for each year of study and are subject to satisfactory academic progress.\u00a0The Student Ambassador Stipends were\u00a0created for students who have an interest in becoming involved in outreach work during their undergraduate programme and include\u00a0an exclusive programme of training and work experience in addition to the funding.\u00a0Recipients of the Partner Scholarship from the Law School include: Ell&#8217;Aye Bates; Hannah Crook; Bethany Hahner; James McDonnell; and Josie Triffitt.\u00a0Recipients of the Student Ambassador Stipends from the Law School include: Ell\u2019Aye Bates; and Angelina Siracusa.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/music\/scholarships.html\">Music Performance Scholarships<\/a>, worth between \u00a31,000 &#8211; \u00a32,000, \u00a0are awarded each year to talented instrumentalists and singers studying for any degree at the University of Kent.\u00a0 This year two students from the Law School have been awarded Music scholarships; Lydia Cheng, who studies Law with French Language and a Year Abroad; and Doug Haycock, who studies Law.<\/p>\n<p>Lydia plays violin and is currently playing with the Kent Symphony and the String Sinfonia. She writes about her reasons for choosing to study at Kent and about her experiences so far as a student at\u00a0 Kent on the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/music-matters\/2016\/01\/18\/in-profile-lydia-cheng\/\">Music Matters blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Doug Haycock sings as a baritone in the Cecilian Choir, as well as the main University Chorus. As a music scholar he is also able to have singing\u00a0lessons once a week and participates in small projects alongside leading Kent singers.
