{"id":1102,"date":"2015-11-18T11:50:02","date_gmt":"2015-11-18T11:50:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/?p=1102"},"modified":"2015-11-18T11:50:02","modified_gmt":"2015-11-18T11:50:02","slug":"third-environmental-law-seminar-environmental-law-and-legal-practice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/third-environmental-law-seminar-environmental-law-and-legal-practice\/","title":{"rendered":"Third Environmental Law Seminar: Environmental Law and Legal Practice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The difficulties of adapting environmental laws to real life situations were addressed during the third in a series of Environmental Law Seminars for Kent students this week.<\/p>\n<p>Guest speaker Elizabeth Hiester, formerly a Senior Lawyer at ClientEarth, London and Vice President of European Environmental Bureau, Brussels spoke on the topic \u2018Environmental Law and Legal Practice\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>A student spokesman said: \u2018With extensive experience in the area of environmental law, Elizabeth shared her interesting perspective and critical legal thoughts.\u00a0 Career opportunities for a new generation of lawyers were also suggested. A question and answer session followed the seminar presentation and everybody present was able to chat with the guest speaker over a cup of coffee and baked cookies.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The seminar, held on 16 November, was organised by Kent LLM students Sanhanat Sooksnguan, Suriya Phichitphajongkij and Voramon Cheamchitt (pictured below).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/files\/2015\/11\/pic-03.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1106\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/files\/2015\/11\/pic-03-272x300.jpg\" alt=\"pic 03\" width=\"272\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/files\/2015\/11\/pic-03-272x300.jpg 272w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/law-news\/files\/2015\/11\/pic-03.jpg 594w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 272px) 100vw, 272px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Environmental Law Seminar Series was launched in October with a seminar focusing on policing environmental protection. The next seminar in the series will be held in January.<\/p>\n<p>The series has been designed specifically for students with an interest in the environmental law modules offered within the School\u2019s one-year Master\u2019s in Law programme, the Kent LLM.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/postgraduate\/taught\/index.html\">Kent LLM<\/a> students can graduate with a specialism in either <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/postgraduate\/taught\/environmental.html\">Environmental Law<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/postgraduate\/taught\/intenvironmental.html\">International Environmental Law<\/a> by (i) opting to study at least three (out of six) modules from those associated with the specialism of their choice and by (ii) focusing the topic of their dissertation on their chosen specialism.<\/p>\n<p>More information about environmental law research, events and academics at Kent can be found on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/law\/envlaw\/index.html\">Environmental Law mini-site<\/a>.
