{"id":287,"date":"2018-10-03T09:32:01","date_gmt":"2018-10-03T08:32:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/landodlatestnews\/?p=287"},"modified":"2018-11-12T10:19:11","modified_gmt":"2018-11-12T10:19:11","slug":"accessibility-tours","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/landodlatestnews\/2018\/10\/03\/accessibility-tours\/","title":{"rendered":"Accessibility Tours"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">Take part in the tour and help accessibility across the University <\/p>\n<p>The Staff Disability Network are pleased to communicate that the previously known Day Walks will be starting again \u2013 they are now \u00a0known as \u2018Accessibility Tours\u2019, to give a more inclusive feel and provide a greater understanding of the purpose of the tours.<\/p>\n<p>The aim of the tour is to get a better understanding of the campus experience for disabled members of staff and students with a view to improving their experience.<\/p>\n<p>The focus of the tours will be on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Routes to and from buildings,<\/li>\n<li>Access into and out of buildings, particularly the new builds and the refurbished buildings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The tours will occur during the following times of year:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>22<sup>nd<\/sup> November 2018 &#8211; 13.00-15.00<\/strong>\u00a0 &#8211; Canterbury Campus, this will be an <strong>outside campus tour &#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0starting at the Main Library Entrance<\/li>\n<li><strong>13<sup>th<\/sup> February\u00a0 2019\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 13.30-15.30<\/strong> \u2013 Medway Campus, this will be an <strong>outside campus tour<\/strong> \u2013 start at The Royal Church on the Dockyard<\/li>\n<li><strong>8<sup>th<\/sup> May 2019 &#8211; 14.00-16.00<\/strong> \u2013 Canterbury Campus,this will be reviewing the accessibility of new builds and refurbished buildings \u2013 Starting place to be confirmed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Exact routes will be communicated nearer to the time to allow for those that cannot complete the full tour to attend any part of the tour that they can.<\/p>\n<p>The tours are open to everyone to attend. There is no need to notify us of your intention to attend, just meet us at the starting place of the tour. The route is as follows:<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">Start at the Library Main entrance <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">Along the path past the Senate building to the front of the Registry<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">From the Registry, cross the road and go to the main entrance of Darwin building <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">From Darwin, go down the side of the Registry past Cornwallis and the Gulbenkian and continue on down past the other entrance to the Library (i.e. past Grimond, Aphra\/Lumley)<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">Continue on down, past the UELT and Security building and cross the road and make our way down to the Sibson building (past Stacey, Ingram, Jennison)<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">From the Sibson building head back towards Jennison then bear right, taking the footpath past the Sports Centre and Canterbury mosque to Keynes College, via Tanglewood<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\"><em>From Keynes cross over University Road near the Venue\/Jarman and along the main footpath back to the Library where we started.<\/em> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>As only limited numbers of tours can occur during the year, we are also encouraging you to be aware of your surroundings and report any issues that you feel are hindering access to areas or buildings, so we can investigate and take action if necessary.
