Following on from the Vice Chancellor\u2019s update\u00a0last week, which outlined\u00a0Kent\u2019s plans to address racial inequality and to create a change in culture.\u00a0Tuesday 2nd Feb at 10am <\/strong>sees the launch of our\u00a0\u2018Challenging Racism\u2019 <\/strong>campaign with\u00a0the first of the series\u00a0of live webinars.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The\u00a0aim of the campaign\u00a0is\u00a0to promote unity not division and to help understand and develop more inclusive behaviours. To do that we all need to increase our awareness and understanding of racism and how it can be tackled within Kent,\u00a0to ensure all\u00a0staff and students feel safe and empowered.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0\u2018Live webinar\u00a0series\u2019 <\/strong>consists of three\u00a090min online webinars on the subject of race and racism, each with a guest speaker, panel discussion and Q&A session;<\/p>\n

Webinar 1: The History of Race in the UK (2nd February 2021 – 10am)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Guest speaker\u00a0Chantelle Lunt \u2013 founder of Merseyside BLM Alliance.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chantelle Lunt is a writer, public speaker, entrepreneur, and activist. She has a professional background in Public Service, including her work in policing and children\u2019s social care. She owns a Juice bar and writes for independent publications. Chantelle is an advocate for racial equality, having experienced racism throughout her life, particularly during her service as a Police Officer. She is the founder of Merseyside BLM Alliance (MBLMA), a group which she established at a time when BLM was moving out of the news cycle.<\/p>\n

Merseyside BLM Alliance has become one of the most proactive anti-racist groups in Merseyside. Chantelle chairs MBLMA\u2019s sister group \u2018Merseyside Alliance for Racial Equality\u2019, a non-profit organization committed to ensuring that black people are not discriminated against and have their needs responded to at a community level.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
