{"id":1109,"date":"2019-06-25T12:24:09","date_gmt":"2019-06-25T11:24:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/landodlatestnews\/?p=1109"},"modified":"2019-07-01T07:48:49","modified_gmt":"2019-07-01T06:48:49","slug":"celebrating-womens-leadership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/landodlatestnews\/2019\/06\/25\/celebrating-womens-leadership\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating Women&#8217;s Leadership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Overcoming EDI challenges in Higher Education<br \/>\n<\/strong>We are delighted to share and celebrate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/european-culture-languages\/people\/1751\/baker-fsa-patty\">Dr Patty Baker<\/a>&#8216;s success in securing TESSA (Teaching Enhancement Small Support Award) funding to host a conference to explore and discus various problems and solutions surrounding setting up EDI programmes in Higher Education.<\/p>\n<p>Patty is an alumna (2018\/19) of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/hr-learninganddevelopment\/leadership&amp;management\/index.html?tab=insights\"><strong>Insights<\/strong><\/a>, our in-house senior women\u2019s leadership programme designed to strengthen and enhance leadership capabilities to support an institutional culture of innovation, improvement and change.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the final workshop of the programme, participants were asked to think about and suggest a project to work on that had an institutional impact.<\/p>\n<p>Patty identified the need for staff training to encourage difficult classroom discussions, inclusive seminars\u00a0and microaggressions. She researched how EDI training is undertaken elsewhere, and contacted EDI Deans\/Chief Diversity Officers in Universities and liberal arts colleges in the United States to discuss their programmes.<br \/>\nShe shared her proposal with the Insights cohort, and as a result\u00a0decided to take this project forward.<\/p>\n<p>This is a fantastic achievement and a piece of work that will benefit staff and students at Kent, as well as support our ongoing EDI agenda.<\/p>\n<p>The online conference will be <em><strong>Monday 8th July 2019<\/strong> <\/em>and will be a continuation of networking and University Chief Diversity and Inclusivity Officers speakers from Universities in the United States.
