{"id":1052,"date":"2019-12-19T12:06:32","date_gmt":"2019-12-19T12:06:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/landodlatestnews\/?p=1052"},"modified":"2019-12-19T12:45:05","modified_gmt":"2019-12-19T12:45:05","slug":"pathways-open-for-nominations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/landodlatestnews\/2019\/12\/19\/pathways-open-for-nominations\/","title":{"rendered":"Pathways &#8211; Career Development Programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">Open for nominations January 2020<\/p>\n<p>Pathways provides colleagues within professional services departments the opportunity to increase their self-awareness, learn and develop new skills and create knowledge so that they can define their career pathways.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Programme aims &amp; benefits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The programme aims to prepare individuals who wish to define their career aspirations by helping them to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identify strengths and development opportunities<\/li>\n<li>Understand what they want from their career<\/li>\n<li>Identify opportunities to assist in achieving the identified career pathway<\/li>\n<li>Provide practical skills in CV writing, applying for roles and attending interviews<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The programme will also bring benefit to the wider university by providing attendees greater connections from other areas, while also developing skill levels in a variety of roles across the institution.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Content<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Introduction and Overview\n<ul>\n<li>Motivational factors<\/li>\n<li>Strengths and Development Needs<\/li>\n<li>Enhancers and inhibitors<\/li>\n<li>Learning styles<\/li>\n<li>Signposting opportunities<\/li>\n<li>Development Goals \u2013 Personal pathway<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>CV writing\n<ul>\n<li>Purpose of a CV<\/li>\n<li>What to include, what not to include<\/li>\n<li>Personal statements<\/li>\n<li>Promoting yourself &#8211; Online<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Making the application\n<ul>\n<li>Identifying transferrable skills<\/li>\n<li>Providing examples of essential criteria\/skills<\/li>\n<li>Use of language in applications I\/we<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Interview skills\n<ul>\n<li>Split into 2 sessions<\/li>\n<li>Types of interviews<\/li>\n<li>What to expect and how to prepare<\/li>\n<li>Giving a good interview<\/li>\n<li>Personal presence<\/li>\n<li>Structuring answers and questions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Putting it into practice\n<ul>\n<li>Mock interview and feedback<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Key underpinning principles<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The key underpinning principles of the programme<\/p>\n<p><strong>Self-Awareness<\/strong>: Those who know their strengths and development opportunities, leading to high self-awareness leads to humility rather than overconfidence. Self-awareness is a predictor of overall success. To know where you want to go and to understand strengths and weaknesses self-awareness is required<\/p>\n<p><strong>Personal responsibility:<\/strong> Taking conscious control of your responses to the events and circumstances in your life. You <em>are<\/em> responsible for yourself, whether you like it or not. What you do with your life and what you have done already is up to you. You are nevertheless responsible for how you think, act, and feel in response to those things. Your career pathway is an area where you need to take responsibility<\/p>\n<p><strong>Programme Commitments<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The programme consists of workshops where the participants\u2019 full commitment will be critical to the programme\u2019s overall success and to ensure the full benefits from participation. Once a person is confirmed on the programme, detailed joining instructions for each element will be forwarded by the Learning and Organisational Development team ahead of each activity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Workshops<\/strong>: Each nominee will need to ensure that all workshop dates can be accommodated in their diary.
