The launch of the Kent Student Law Review

Last Friday I attended the launch of the first edition of the Kent Student Law Review (KSLR).  KSLR is a student-led initiative that provides a platform for Kent Law School’s students to publish their work.

I would encourage anyone interested in applying for an LLM at Kent to have a look at the KSLR.  The first edition contains a wide variety of articles on topics including assisted suicide, climate change, asylum, foreign investment law, trade mark law and legal ethics. KSLR is a great demonstration of the work produced by Kent’s students and is reflective of the culture and ethos of KLS.  The articles are diverse in both the topics they cover and the theoretical approaches undertaken by the authors.  They contain perspectives that can be described as socio-legal, philosophical, ethical and, most importantly, critically engage with current issues.  As a result of having been peer-reviewed by students and academics at KLS, the submissions are of a very high standard.

It seems fitting that such an exciting initiative is launched whilst University of Kent celebrates its 50th anniversary.  During my first few weeks of study at KLS I have been struck by the enthusiasm of the law students and the support their ideas receive from staff at KLS.  This is a great opportunity – especially for those who are considering an academic career and are interested in undertaking legal research.  It will be very interesting to see how the KSLR develops and I look forward to reading the next edition.

To keep up to date with any developments, and to see photos of the launch event, you can follow KSLR on Facebook.
