{"id":4896,"date":"2019-11-27T16:59:22","date_gmt":"2019-11-27T16:59:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kentsport-news\/?p=4896"},"modified":"2019-11-27T17:02:51","modified_gmt":"2019-11-27T17:02:51","slug":"university-of-kent-staff-team-get-off-to-winning-ways-ahead-of-kent-fa-community-cup-fixtures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kentsport-news\/university-of-kent-staff-team-get-off-to-winning-ways-ahead-of-kent-fa-community-cup-fixtures\/","title":{"rendered":"University of Kent staff team get off to winning ways ahead of Kent FA Community Cup fixtures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Kent staff team have got off to winning ways with a 5-1 victory in a friendly fixture against student team Average Old Boys, who play in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toptournament.co.uk\/league\/5695109017370624\/kent_amateur_football_league_2019_20\">Kent Amateur Football league<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The team started well and their performance was rewarded with an early goal from Charlie Dast. Average Old Boys quickly responded with a great header from Tom Wood to make it 1-1. However, another goal from Charlie Dast and goals from Kevin Doyle, Guillermo Reyes Pascual and Matt Brears saw the team walk away with a comfortable 5-1 victory.<\/p>\n<p>The friendly was a great opportunity for the team to practise formations and tactics ahead of their competitive fixtures of the inaugural Kent FA Community Cup, a county wide tournament hosted by Kent FA. The tournament is open to organisations and businesses across the county, providing opportunities for players to participate in a competitive but enjoyable atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p>Other teams entered into the Cup include: Kent Country Council, Kent Community Health NHS and Kent FA.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The Kent FA Community Cup is a great opportunity for staff members from across the University to play 11 a-side football in a competitive but enjoyable format and to put into practise the hours spent playing at our casual small sided staff football sessions throughout the week. It has been a pleasure to be part of the organisation of the team and the team and I are very much looking forward to our first competitive fixture.\u2019 &#8211; Billy Radford, Sports Development Officer for Kent Sport.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Kent players are from departments all across campus with wide ranging jobs including a Reader in Astronomy and Astrophysics, a Business Development Manager, a Buddhist Chaplain, a Professor of Psychology and an Innovation Assistant.
