We want to give you a chance to encounter the projects\u00a0and\u00a0people that make up our research here at the Centre. It is our\u00a0hope that this blog can capture the collegial spirit that is shared among our research community and will help to create a space for discussion around the areas we engage with &#8211; such as the history of medicine, medical ethics, education and policy.\u00a0We invite you to be part of the conversation by commenting on blog posts and by following us on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kentmedhist\">Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>The Centre<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The &#8216;Centre for the History of Medicine, Ethics and Medical Humanities&#8217; (CHMEMH) aims to promote excellence in research and teaching to understand medical traditions and practices within their\u00a0changing historical context. We are committed to a vision of the history of medicine, history of medical ethics and medical humanities which is chronologically expansive, thematically and geographically diverse, and which draws upon a wide range of sources, disciplines and expertise.\u00a0It is our intention to\u00a0engage with the ethical questions\u00a0of the past\u00a0with a view to tackling\u00a0the challenges faced by\u00a0medicine today.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The Centre has earned an excellent reputation for innovative, contemporary research and its members have received support for the a number of research projects such as\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/porton-down-project\/\">Centre&#8217;s Porton Down Project<\/a>\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0&#8216;The History of Biochemical Warfare Research and Human Experimentation, 1945 &#8211; 1989&#8217; (Wellcome Trust) and &#8220;Karl Brandt: The Nazi Doctor &#8211; Medicine and Power in the Third Reich&#8221; (Leverhulme Trust).\u00a0For more information on publications, events, teaching and research please feel free to visit our institutional\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/history\/centres\/medicine\/index.html\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>Options for Study<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">As an educational institution, the Centre offers a wide range of courses at undergraduate level. We also provide a taught Masters course and facilitate high quality research supervision at PhD level. Areas we\u00a0provide research supervision include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">War and medicine<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">Mental health<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">History of emotions, gender and sexuality<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">Medical ethics and law<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">Medicine and the media<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">Public and global health<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">History of disability<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">Environment and health<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">Animals and human culture<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">Medicine and empire<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">Colonial science and medicine<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">Medical humanities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Research students are encouraged to approach members of the Centre to discuss potential projects.
