Ed is the horticultural apprentice at KentCOG<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve always enjoyed working outside, using my hands, and\nbeing surrounded by nature. I began my Horticulture apprenticeship with Kent\nEnterprise Trust on 3rd<\/sup> December 2018, with a view to developing\nskills that I might need for the future, and to support the Trust in its\nmission to help people get back into work. Working with the Trust has also\ngiven me the opportunity to begin an RHS Level 2 Horticulture Course at Hadlow\nCollege, which would be very beneficial for my future plans to become\nself-employed. I believe that gardening and being in a space that is\nnon-threatening is also extremely helpful in improving people\u2019s self-esteem, as\nnew skills are constantly being taught and shared. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the environment can be\ninformal, the projects that we are working on are structured and planned so\nthat we ensure that the garden is always moving towards its full potential. I\npersonally feel a huge sense of satisfaction when it comes to help building\nstructures such as the new polytunnel at the Community Oasis Garden site and\nsourcing the materials for such tasks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is also important that we share\nideas with other community gardens, and this is a skill that the Trust is\nhelping me to develop. I appreciate the fact that I am able to attend other\ngardens and network with like-minded people, and advance my current working\nknowledge. A key word that I consider relevant for the Trust is\n\u2018collaboration\u2019, and this is something that is important for its future as a\nsustainable space, which is important for the people\u2019s general wellbeing and\nself-development. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
