KBS Marketing Students Intern at Google

Olivia Coburn and Megan Tucker both completed a summer placement at Google with thanks to employability services at KBS, as well as the support from the placement team.

Megan and Olivia, both Marketing with a Year in Industry students at Kent Business School (KBS), interned at Google’s London office alongside 18 other interns. They were based in the Marketing department and their roles were chosen by Google. Olivia worked on Search and Ads in the Large Advertiser and Agency Marketing team and Megan in the Training and Advocacy for the UK Retail Marketing Team.

In her time at Google, Megan worked on three main projects; helping to build a recruitment centre to train and create advocates for Google’s hardware products, conducting research on Google’s call centres to increase sales and advocacy, and localisation.

One of Olivia’s top projects was the management of the publication of in house research, working across marketing and external agencies to get this live. She also managed and facilitated the marketing activity planning process for her team, running interactive sessions for idea generation. Olivia said, “I was lucky enough to be able to have meetings with senior leaders who were all very interested in the intern programme and I was able to go the Dublin European head offices whilst there”

As interns, they were frequently invited to have conversations with notable individuals, such as Matt Brittin and Graham Bednash.  Weekly TGIFs (Thank Google it’s Friday) were made available to live stream and watch Sundar hold talks on interesting topics. Their time at Google also included a trip abroad to Amsterdam, visiting Soho House and being involved in many conferences and guest speakers.

“Thanks to the KBS employability services, as well as the support from the placement team, we both managed to independently secure an internship at Google, which has been an absolute dream. This internship was completed after our successful placements this last year. We are both incredibly grateful for these opportunities, thank you again for your support in this!”
