This led to a Knowledge Transfer Partnership project graded as \u201cOutstanding\u201d by Innovate UK.<\/p>\n<h2>The Challenge<\/h2>\n<p>KROHNE wanted to develop a new robust model-based approach to improve the measurement performance of their flow meters, as the importance of precision measuring was paramount to their company\u2019s success.<\/p>\n<h2>\u00a0The Approach<\/h2>\n<p>The company and the University embarked on a\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/knowledge-exchange-innovation\/knowledge-transfer-partnerships\">Knowledge Transfer Partnership<\/a>, which benefitted from the expertise of Dr Xue Wang from Kent\u2019s School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science, in statistical regression analysis.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-75 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kei-case-studies\/files\/2021\/06\/Krohne-Square.png\" width=\"260\" height=\"173\" \/>&#8220;Working with the University of Kent has encouraged us to explore the uses of mathematical and statistical sciences for engineering and manufacturing technologies.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px\">Edward Jukes, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14px\">Research and Development Manager, KROHNE<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>The Result<\/h2>\n<p>The partnership developed an advanced procedure reducing overall testing time and increasing production calibration capacity by more than 30% for some key product lines: this lead to improved product performance with enhanced functionality and a reduction in manufacturing and maintenance costs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The KTP has not only enabled us to develop and embed an advanced statistical approach to the production process, but also encouraged us to take a fresh view towards fundamental research.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<footer>\n<footer><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-146 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kei-case-studies\/files\/2021\/07\/InnovateUKlogo.png\" alt=\"Innovate UK Logo\" width=\"227\" height=\"73\" \/><\/footer>\n<footer><\/footer>\n<footer><em>Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, funded by Innovate UK, aim to help businesses to improve their competitiveness and productivity through the better use of knowledge, technology and skills that reside within the UK knowledge base.
