The interview can be heard <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/iplayer\/episode\/p00r6q5g\/Breakfast_with_John_Warnett_and_Clare_McDonnell_30_04_2012\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Patricia Lewis of Kent Business School has won a British Academy research grant for a project on women who combine motherhood with launching their own business.<\/p>\n<p>This project explores the emergence of the \u2018mumpreneur\u2019.\u00a0 This fascinating form of entrepreneurship sees women choosing to stay at home and care for children while launching a successful business, often with a nurturing or child-centred theme.<\/p>\n<p>Chrissie Rucker, founder of the White Company, and\u00a0 Justine Roberts and Carrie Longton, founders of Mumsnet.com, are examples of the \u2018mumpreneur\u2019 phenomenon.<\/p>\n<p>The one year project investigates how distinct ideas about being a mum and entrepreneur influence these women\u2019s business and mothering activities.\u00a0 A key question of the project is whether combining business with being a stay-at-home mum can make women\u2019s entrepreneurial activity seem less legitimate.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Mumpreneurs\u2019: Reframing Women\u2019s Entrepreneurial Activity?<\/em> runs from September 2012 until December 2013 and is supported by a \u00a33,650 British Academy research grant.<br \/>\nFor more information please contact <a href=\"mailto:p.m.j.lewis@kent.ac.uk\">p.m.j.lewis@kent.ac.uk<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>30 April 2012 Dr Patricia Lewis discusses the&#8217;Mumpreneur project with BBC Radio Kent.
