Kent Business School (KBS) has officially received its Small Business Charter (SBC) in recognition of the support it provides to small businesses and student entrepreneurship across the University. <\/p>\n
The award was\u00a0presented\u00a0by Lord Young\u00a0to a delegation from the University of Kent<\/a> led by Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Karen Cox at an event at\u00a0the House of Lords<\/a>. Others in attendance at the ceremony were:<\/p>\n The Small Business Charter<\/a> award is\u00a0a national kitemark, recognising business schools which demonstrate excellence in supporting student enterprise, small businesses and the local economy.<\/p>\n Several elements of KBS’ work were noted as impressive, in particular,\u00a0ASPIRE<\/a>, for providing an excellent networking space for students\u00a0and graduates starting up their own businesses and for further development through mentoring and skills workshops. It said too that students benefit from the experience of\u00a0being able to start their own business as part of their course.<\/p>\n “The progress made by KBS in building their relationships with local small businesses is bearing fruit and,\u00a0given the strong relationships built with other stakeholders, is likely to bring effective support to even larger numbers of local businesses<\/em>.” – Anne Kiem, SBC Executive Director and Chief Executive of the Chartered Association of Business Schools<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Also mentioned was the support for small businesses by KBS<\/a> and the University,<\/a>\u00a0which has a significant economic\u00a0benefit to the region. KBS assists small businesses to recruit fresh talent by helping them to write job advertisements and\u00a0then market them to graduates.<\/p>\n The\u00a0Kent Business Summit,<\/a> another excellent initiative cited,\u00a0showcases the close working relationships with local small business representative bodies such as the FSB<\/a>, IoD<\/a> and Locate in Kent<\/a>.
