{"id":5277,"date":"2017-04-20T12:15:39","date_gmt":"2017-04-20T11:15:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/?p=5277"},"modified":"2018-06-26T15:48:34","modified_gmt":"2018-06-26T14:48:34","slug":"dr-samantha-evans-features-at-cipd-performance-management-seminar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/2017\/04\/dr-samantha-evans-features-at-cipd-performance-management-seminar\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr Samantha Evans Features at CIPD Performance Management Seminar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">Kent Business School&#8217;s Lecturer in Employee Relations and Human Resource Management, Dr Samantha Evans was invited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) to speak about the latest research on the practice of performance management.<\/p>\n<p>As well as presenting her thoughts on\u00a0the observations on the latest research and thinking, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/kbs\/our-staff\/profiles\/evans_samantha.html\">Dr Evans<\/a> also spoke about her recent paper, &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2017\/04\/Evans-and-Tourish-ML-2016.pdf\">Agency theory and performance appraisal: How bad theory damages learning and contributes to bad management practice<\/a>&#8216;. The paper, written in collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/pure.royalholloway.ac.uk\/portal\/en\/persons\/dennis-tourish(90abca1f-14e2-446c-a414-a3c689392d90).html\">Professor Dennis Tourish<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.royalholloway.ac.uk\/home.aspx\">Royal Holloway University<\/a>, highlights the influence of agency theory on the (mal)practice\u00a0of performance appraisal. The session also included leading a roundtable discussion on practices within the audience\u2019s own organisations.<\/p>\n<p>The audience was largely made up of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cipd.co.uk\/\">CIPD <\/a>members, HR practitioners who are members of the professional body.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/kbs\/our-staff\/profiles\/evans_samantha.html\">Dr Evans<\/a> said: &#8216;To present to and engage with HR practitioners is always a privilege and in this session we learnt so much from each other. In addition, the session was also attended by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/kbs\/\">Kent Business School <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/postgraduate\/293\/human-resource-management\">MSc HRM<\/a> students who are members of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cipd.co.uk\/\">CIPD<\/a>, giving them the opportunity to network and learn about the practical application of the research that I do.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/kbs\/\">Kent Business School<\/a>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/postgraduate\/293\/human-resource-management\">MSc Human Resource Management <\/a>programme is accredited\u00a0by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cipd.co.uk\/\">Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development<\/a> (CIPD).
