Director of Studies for Kent Business School\u2019s popular MSc Human Resource Management (HRM) programme was presenting on her social class research project entitled \u2018Talent Management and Inequality: The Trouble with Social Class.\u2019<\/p>\n
Dr Evans\u2019<\/a> research looks at how social class differences lead to (dis)advantage in the workplace. Her presentation shared the results of a survey which measured social class from objective (tangible) & subjective (how people feel about their social class\/ rate their social class). The survey found that social class does play a role in career development, opportunities and feelings of well-being in the workplace.<\/p>\n Dr Evans<\/a> was invited by Jackie Fotheringham at Kent Innovation and Enterprise<\/a> to be a guest speaker at the event which was attended by over 70 people. Held at Darwin Conference Suites at the University\u2019s Canterbury campus<\/a>, the agenda included presentations from academics from the University and representatives from some of Kent\u2019s most well respected companies.<\/p>\n Over the course of the day delegates saw inspiring presentations from eight speakers from Sleeping Giant Media<\/a>, People Face2Face<\/span><\/a>, JW Training<\/a>, Kent Business School<\/a>, AXA UK<\/a>,School of Psychology<\/a>, and Caliper UK<\/a>. Presentations ranged from practical sessions on unconscious bias and mentoring talent, to talks on employee wellbeing and best practice.<\/p>\n After her presentation Dr Evans<\/a> said: \u201cPresenting my research to the HR practitioner community is a wonderful opportunity to engage with those who can actually make a difference to addressing the challenges associated with social class in the workplace.”<\/p>\n The conference was opened by Carole Barron, Director of Innovation and Enterprise, and Emma Austen, Resourcing Manager at AXA PPP Healthcare<\/a> who kindly sponsored the event. AXA <\/a>ran a competition for students on Kent Business School<\/a> MSc HRM Programme to win tickets to attend the conference.
