{"id":3961,"date":"2015-09-23T16:24:35","date_gmt":"2015-09-23T15:24:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/?p=3961"},"modified":"2022-02-22T21:57:49","modified_gmt":"2022-02-22T21:57:49","slug":"professor-warwick-funnells-paper-wins-enrique-fernandez-pena-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/2015\/09\/professor-warwick-funnells-paper-wins-enrique-fernandez-pena-prize\/","title":{"rendered":"Professor Warwick Funnell\u2019s paper wins Enrique Fernandez Pena Prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/kbs\/our-staff\/profiles\/funnell_warwick.html\">Professor Warwick Funnell<\/a>, Professor of Accounting and Finance at KBS, has won the highly regarded Enrique Fernandez Pena Prize for his paper titled \u201cWar or the Business of God: Sacred Mission, Accounting and Spanish Military Hospitals in the 18<sup>th<\/sup> Century.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Awarded by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aeca.es\/pub\/homei.htm\">Spanish Accounting Association (AECA)<\/a>, the national association of accounting academics in Spain, the paper was published in <em>Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal. <\/em>Professor Funnell co-authored the paper with Dr Juan Ba\u00f1os S\u00e1nchez-Matamoros.<\/p>\n<p>The study which was awarded the Enrique Fernandez Pena Prize in Spain examines the important and innovative role that accounting played in ensuring the success of the sacred mission of the St John\u2019s Order by providing financial and other information which was critical to the successful management of the hospitals. Today the Order provides hospital care for more than 28 million people throughout the world.<\/p>\n<p>The Spanish St John\u2019s Order was created by the Catholic Church in the 16<sup>th<\/sup> century to provide care for the sick and infirm by establishing hospitals throughout Spain and across the lands that it had conquered.
