{"id":3605,"date":"2014-12-11T09:35:36","date_gmt":"2014-12-11T09:35:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/?p=3605"},"modified":"2015-01-28T11:36:12","modified_gmt":"2015-01-28T11:36:12","slug":"kbs-on-building-a-strong-value-proposition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/2014\/12\/kbs-on-building-a-strong-value-proposition\/","title":{"rendered":"KBS on building a strong value proposition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>&#8220;A day that starts with a professor on his hands and knees inspecting a carpet to make a point to a group of business owners is almost always going to end up being a wild ride!!<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right\"><strong>&#8211; Network participant<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At the formation meeting of the University of Kent\u2019s Business School business owner network a select group of twelve business owners came together to debate the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/kbs\/business\/sme\/news.html?view=3514\">key challenges<\/a> that they needed to explore and resolve as they sought to improve and grow their businesses over the next year.<\/p>\n<p>The challenge chosen by the group to explore at the <strong>first network session<\/strong> was embedded to the subject of <strong>Value Chain Management (VCM)<\/strong>. Within this, business owners held a desire to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>consider how they translate market research into data that can be used to understand the needs of your\u00a0 customers\/consumers;<\/li>\n<li>understand the concept of \u2018value\u2019 and how we each create value;<\/li>\n<li>build a clear and concise (set of) value proposition(s);<\/li>\n<li>better understand their role in the Value Chain, and the implications this has for the way they deliver their value propositions, and compete;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>develop an initial action plan for improvement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In November, participants came together with professional facilitators and Andy Fearne (Professor in Value Chain Management), to explore and make sense of the above areas.
